TheFebruary3rdluncheonwillbeheldatBarristerWinery,1213WRailroadAvenueindowntownSpokane.Thiswillbeanopportunityto“killtwobirdswithonestone!”Learnabouttherewardsandbenefitsofgardening,andthentastesomeofthefinestwinesbeingcraftedinSpokane.BarristerWineryisthevenue,andabuffetlunchwillbecateredbyBeaconHillEvents,knownasoneofthebestcaterersintheregion.

Ourpresenter,CathiLamoreaux,aSpeechLanguagePathologistforInfinityRehabinSpokane,isactivelyinvolvedincognitiverehabilitationprograms,dementiagardendesignandprogramming,andadaptivegardeningtechniques.CathiisaMasterGardener,hasaB.A.inEarlyChildhoodEducation,andanM.A.inCommunicationDisorders.ShealsoholdscertificatesinHorticulturalTherapyandGeriatricCognitiveRehabilitation.FollowingCathi’ssharingofknowledgegleanedfromyearsspentwithherhandsdugdeepinrichsoil,BarristerWineryowner,GregLipsker,willtakeusonatourofhisoutstandingfacility.Thisisaneventyouwillnotwanttomiss.

AsIcontemplatemymessagetoyou,thetelevisionisreportingtheterroristattacksinFrance.Howluckywearetoresideonthisparticularcompasspointthatseemssoremotefromthetroublesoftheworld...althoughIdidfeelvulnerablewhenmyfavoritecoffeeplaceinSydneywasinvadedbyaterroristjustbeforeChristmas.Iaskedtheladiesattheluncheoniftheywouldbeproactiveinreachingouttomemberswhomtheydonotknow,andIamextendingthatinvitationtoeachofyou.ConsultyourDirectoryandcalloremailaladyandintroduceyourself.Youwillbesurprisedhowappreciativeshewillbe,asyouwouldbe,toknowanothermemberwantstoknowher.Somemembersareinvolvedinmanyactivitiesandinterestgroups,buttherearesomeladieswhoarenewtothearea,ordonothavefamilyinSpokane,orarejusttooshytocometotheluncheonsbecausetheydonotknowmanyladies.Respectforandtoleranceofeachotherissuchapositive.Itisonlyhumannaturethatinagroupofapproximately150womentherewillbevariousviewsonreligion,politics,education,discipline,lifestyle,fashion,husbands,andmusic,butlisteningtooneanotherandbeingtolerantissoeasyandsuchasimpleact...youmayevenlearnsomething.Youareallgreatwomenwithsomuchlifeexperience,andyouneedtosharethiswithothers.Ishallfinishnowassomeonewantstoborrowmysoapbox!

aroundtotakeourorders.Shesaidthatticketsforthe50/50andphilanthropydrawingswouldbeavailableduringthemeeting.Janthankedeveryonefortheirgenerouscontributionsofcannedgoodsforthefoodbank. JanaskedthateachmemberlookatherCompassClubdirectorytofindthenameofsomeoneshedoesn’tknow,andthentogivethatpersonacall.Sheaskedthatwereachouttosomeone,and,intheprocess,makeanewfriend.ShesaidthatourCompassRosenewsletterwillneedaneweditorandaskedifanyonewithcomputersavywouldvolunteertofillthisboardpositionnextyear.
