Ape House
by Sara Gruen.
She says “An insightful
entertaining and easy to
read novel. I certainly wanted to learn more
about bonobos, and the interesting work be-
ing undertaken at the Great Ape Trust.”
A Fine Romance, by
Candice Bergen, begins
with Bergen’s charming
first husband, French
director Louis Malle, but
her real romance begins
when she discovers over-
powering love for her
daughter after years of
ambivalence about moth-
erhood. As Chloe grows up, Bergen finds her
comic genius in the biggest TV role of the 80s,
Murphy Brown, and makes unwanted headlines
when Dan Quayle pulls her into the 1992 presi-
dential campaign. A natural writer, Candice is
hilarious, brutally honest, down-to-earth, and
wise. (Goodreads.com)

Troll Hunting
by Ginger Gorman.
In 2013, journalist Ginger
Gorman was trolled online.
She received scores of hate-
ful tweets, including a death
threat. A picture of Ginger
heavily pregnant alongside
her husband and two-and-
half year old daughter
appeared on a fascist website. Understandably
she was terrified, but once the attack subsided,
she found herself curious. Who were these
trolls? How and why did they coordinate such
an attack? And how does someone fight back
against a troll?
An intense and compelling read, Troll Hunting
is an important window into not just the mindset
and motivation of trolls, but the history of this
kind of aberrant behaviour. Ginger Gorman has
gained unprecedented access to trolls, even
formed strange and enduring relationships with
them, and her comprehensive investigation into
what makes them tick has given us a brilliant
book that is impossible to put down.

Aurore 2017 Rated M.
French drama/comedy
with English subtitles.
This refreshing and funny
French film is about ageing
and coming to terms with
its physical and emotional
challenges.
Aurore is in her early fifties, separated from her
husband and living with her younger daughter. She
finds she is having to contend with frequent ‘bouf-
fees de chaleur’ (hot flushes). She is also frustrated
by changes in her workplace and unsettled by the
news that her older daughter is pregnant. When she
accidentally bumps into her significant first love she
begins to reflect on decisions of the past and contem-
plate possibilities for the future.
Agnes Jaoui plays the role of Aurore with great
warmth and conviction and there are some memora-
ble scenes depicting the rich connections between
family and friends. This is a touching and engaging
film which manages to enlighten as well as entertain.
