#CES2020THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS
Organized By
30 March 2020 | The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC
As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary in 2019, we pride ourselves on delivering another mile-stone convention, The 1st CIRCULAR ECONOMY SUMMIT, in collaboration with Responsible Business Consultancy – UAE, building on a decade-long overwhelming success of The CSR LEBANON FORUM, the largest international scale sustainability Forum in the region.
This First Edition, titled “THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS” is in line with the UAE’s determined advancement towards ‘circularity’ aimed at fullfiling sustainable growth and promoting a more efficient resource management, a matter that is increasingly gaining importance on the agendas of policymakers globally.
The 1st CIRCULAR ECONOMY SUMMIT in the Region will bring together more than 700 business leaders and professionals, business and industry representatives, scientists, researchers and academics, innovators, public authorities and policymakers, as well as experts across the recy-cling and waste management industries. The Summit will highlight how organizations, cities, and countries can leverage the latest innovations to shift from a linear economic model and to foster new business opportunities, sharing best practices for protecting the environment and enhancing people’s quality of life.
A LEGACY OF SUSTAINABILITY
THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUSTAINABILITY LEADERS
The circular economy: an opportunity
worth an excess of $1 trillion for the
global economy.

DRAFT
The circular economy is an economic system where products and services are produced and traded in closed loops or ‘cycles’. A circular economy is regenerative by design, it replaces the end-of-life concept with restoration, shifts towards the use of renewable energy, and aims for the elimination of waste through the superior design and value retention of materials, prod-ucts, systems and business models.
Moving towards a more circular economy is a logical proposition. Using less natural resourc-es, reducing pollution, tackling climate change, enhancing consumer satisfaction, while also improving the bottom line. In other terms, the circular economy seeks to redefine growth.
A GLIMPSE OF THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
“In April 2019, the UAE has taken firm steps towards a circular
economy model where the government, became the first
signatory to the World Economic Forum’s “Scale 360” initiative.”

A MODEL GAINING GRAVITY IN THE REGION
The concept of circularity has recently gained strength, under the Paris Agreement to fight climate change.
Solutions to rule out waste are indeed relevant for the region. A recent report reveals that incorporating circular initiatives in urban areas can generate savings of $138 billion in the GCC by 2030, equivalent to about 1% of the region’s cumulative GDP from 2020-2030. It can also reduce emissions by 150 million tonnes.
In April 2019, the UAE has taken firm steps towards a circular economy model where the gov-ernment, became the first signatory to the World Economic Forum’s “Scale 360” initiative, and formed a Coalition of Innovation in Recycling towards a Closed Loop Economy (Coalition Circle), both accelerating the move towards a more circular economy and tackling climate change. This aligns with the UAE Vision 2021 and the Centennial Strategy 2071, to reduce landfill waste by 75% by 2021 and drive sustainable growth and position the country among the best in the world.

WHAT WILL WE DISCUSS?
The 1st CIRCULAR ECONOMY SUMMIT in the Region will provide deep insight on the concept of Circular Economy as a catalyzer for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on business model innovation and capturing opportunities to drive performance. It will also emphasize the role of waste management in the context of a circular economy transition moving beyond the perception of ‘waste as a problem’ to ‘waste as a resource’.
Collaboration, leadership commitment, citizen engagement, and other factors will be also deliberated as significant enablers of a coherent and holistic approach to circularity, topped with new technologies and their potential to disrupt the value chain.
The Summit aims at strengthening the knowledge base on the transition towards sustainable circular economy, identifying policy options and priorities, and planning future actions.
“If it can’t be reduced, repaired, rebuilt, refurbished, refinished,
resold, recycled or composted, then it should be restricted,
redesigned or removed from production.”
