THE CRAP TEST Is the information CURRENT?
Scroll down to the boFom of the website – when was the last Hme this was updated? For science & tech informaHon if it’s more than 4-‐6 years old it’s probably out of date!
THE CRAP TEST Is the source RELIABLE?
What is this website trying to do? Are there ads and a .com? Is there balanced informaHon (as liFle bias as possible) and a .org? The most reliable sources are usually .gov & .edu
THE CRAP TEST Is the information ACCURATE?
Is everything correct & true? Who is the Author: are they an expert on the subject? Scroll down & read the About page of the website. Watch out for bad CUPS* on websites: small mistakes could mean big ones are there too!
Is the source AUTHORITATIVE?
CUPS = Capitalization, Usage & grammar, Punctuation & Spelling
* Add this to your notes!!
THE CRAP TEST What’s the source’s PURPOSE?
Why does this website or arHcle exist? Is the informaHon focused on the topic, and does the author do a good job? Does the website look professionally designed with good CUPS?
Is the source WELL-PRESENTED?
