Steps of Delegation Examples of Dialogue

Step 1: State your need for help. “Tina, I need your help”

Step 2: Say why you are asking this person vs. another.

“I am asking you specifically because you’re qualified and motivated.”

Step 3: Ask for specific acceptance.

“Are you willing to take over this task?”

Step 4: Describe the task in detail.

“You will be keeping the books and making sure

every penny is accounted for.”

Step 5: State deadline and quality standards.

“Report the accounts by the 30th of the months with

both sides balancing.”Step 6: Discuss reporting standards.

“I would like an update by the 15th of every month so I can make sure you’re on the right track. Show me your work.”

Step 7: Discuss skill/training needs.

“I am here to help in any way that you need me. Is there anything I can do to

help you now?”
