Whether the Bombay High Court is

right or wrong, ‘Kick’ actor, Salman

Khan, his family, friends and fans can rejoice,

at least for a few weeks, because he is a free

man, as of now.

The Bombay High Court suspended

Salman’s sentence and he has been directed

to get a fresh bail bond.

The judge, who was presiding over the

hearing, is reported to have said that Salman

should not be made to suffer when the

appeal is still being heard.

On Wednesday, May 6th (2015), just after

the Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced

Salman to five-years’ rigorous imprisonment,

in the 2002 hit-and-run case, where he is

said to have drunkenly driven his vehicle

over people sleeping on a payment, in

Mumbai, the actor filed for an interim bail,

which he immediately got.

However, this does not necessarily mean

that the conviction has been lifted and that

Salman is totally a free man. The sentence

has only been suspended.

The five-year term and the ‘guilty’ judg-

ment still stand. It’s just that he doesn’t

have to go to jail yet, while the appeal is

being heard.

Salman’s passport has been confiscated

so no foreign trips for the man.

The next hearing is set to happen in

June.

There has been some support for

Salman, coming from Bollywood celebri-

ties who took to Twitter.

Karan Johar: I can only respond emotion-

ally just now…my thoughts and prayers are

with Salman and his family today. I wish

them strength.

Parineeti Chopra: Hurt to think of what

could happen. We will always be with you.

Hope the judge sees the beauty of a human

being that Salman Khan is.

Preity Zinta: Shattered after hearing the

verdict. Hope the court sees

@BeingSalmanKhan has helped and saved

hundreds of people over the years.

However, a journalist, in Mumbai, had

this to say about the jail sentence:

“As a person, living in Mumbai, and in his

neighbourhood, I welcome the verdict as we

don’t want such role models ruining the

minds of our youth.”

Anyway, I’m a firm believer of the fact

that the law should be equal for everyone

and the guilty should be punished.

At one time, in Colombo espe-cially, Chinese food was thenumber one favourite with

most. But, that scene seems to havechanged and Thai cuisine is now topof the list with those who like to tastethe difference.

This could, probably, be due tomany Sri Lankans travelling toThailand, on business, vacation, etc.

Inorder that travellersto Thailand get theopportunity of tast-ing a greater varietyof Thai cuisine, while in Thailand, the Ministry ofForeign Affairs ofThailand, in collaboration withThailand Foundation, has created anapplication for both Android and iOS,

called “Street Food Bangkok”This application provides infor-mation about street food inBangkok, restaurants and essen-tial information for travellers.

The application is availablefor all Android and iOS

users and onecould checkout hundreds ofstalls, andshops, in theThai capital, via‘Street FoodBangkok.’All you have to

do is to download‘Street FoodBangkok’ fromApp Store or Play

Store. And the download is free.

Asell-out crowd

thronged the

Springvale Town Hall,

in Melbourne, Australia, for

celebrations connected with

two big schools, in Nugegoda

– St. John’s and St. Joseph’s

College.

This is an annual event

and this year the main focus

was on the 100-year celebra-

tion of St. John’s Nugegoda

and 65 years of St. Joseph’s.

Corrine and her band,

Burn, flew all the way, from

Colombo, for this presti-

gious event and, accord-

ing to Trevine Rodrigo, of

the Lanka Times,

Melbourne, they delivered

with great aplomb, vow-

ing fans who heard them

for the first time.

Trevine went on to say

that Kevin Almeida, who accom-

panied the group, gave them

that extra edge in vocal while

showcasing his mastery on lead

guitar. “He is without a doubt an

act not to be missed.”

Bert Ekenaike (old boy of St.

John’s Nugegoda) paid special tribute to the late

Ondray Ephraums, the founding member of the

Saints of Nugegoda annual event, saying, “Your

determination to ensure the success of this

night will stay with us always. Your courage and

strength will be our motivation to ensure your

legacy continues through the Saints of

Nugegoda committee. Ondray will always be in

our hearts and never forgotten.”

The late Ondray was from St. Joseph’s

Nugegoda.
