how many times did you smile yesterday?

• hint: it’s probably between 5 and 30[3]
• in any case, it’s difficult to keep track of

rather than ask people to become more aware of their current smiling habits, I wanted them to add on
an additional smiling behavior

results
• 7 people signed up
• all within my immediate social circle
• trial lasted for 7 days
results
• all 7 responded to the daily picture with a picture of themselves
• >90% of the responses were within 5 minutes or less of the initial MMS
• half reported noticing feeling better by smiling themselves, but the other half reported feeling better just from receiving the initial smiling picture
insights
• interest outside of my immediate social circle was slim (non-existent, actually…), perhaps due to the “intimacy” of photo-sharing
• did not have a set time for sending the MMS’s, there might be a better/best time of day
• people wanted to do it with other people besides me…
next steps
• remove myself from the transaction
• automate the process
• aggregate responses
• expand to medium besides MMS
