TEST SECURITY AND
CONFIDENTIALITYDepartment of Research, Assessment, and Accountability
Katy ISD
Fall, 2014
Welcome to our Assessment Training. As we work to improve our safety
culture, we want to take care of a few housekeeping details before our
session begins.
Bathrooms and drinking fountains are located in the main hallway to
the left of the1200s and behind us in the back corner of the ESC
In case of an emergency, please listen to the directions being offered
by district staff
Primary emergency exits are located behind us towards KHS and back
out the front exit towards the main parking lots. Once in the hallway,
follow the illuminated exit signs out of the building
We will assemble in the parking lot of the Credit Union
Meeting Reminders
2
• We respectfully request that you turn off the sound or set electronic devices to vibrate as a courtesy to everyone. All calls must be answered outside of meeting rooms. Thank you!
• In an effort to provide you the very best training, we ask that you comply with this request. We will utilize technology during our trainings, but will prompt you when it is acceptable to take those devices out.
• For longer training days, we will build in time for a “technology break.” That would be a great time to catch up on an email or text.

What could a breach of “no person
may view, reveal, or discuss the test”
look/sound like at a campus?
What might a breach of this same
statement look/sound like, specifically
involving use of technology?

Move and Discuss
As Test Administrators are returning testing tubs, why is it imperative for the CTC to take his/her time accounting for all materials?
Why is it important to reconcile the number of answer documents and online assessments being submitted with the total number of students enrolled in a grade level?
Bottom Line…
No person may view, reveal, or discuss the contents of a test booklet or online assessment before, during, or after a test administration unless specifically authorized to do so by the procedures outlined in the test administration materials. If circumstances necessitate that a test booklet or online assessment be examined, permission MUST first be obtained from TEA
Call the Assessment Office, who will then call TEA
No person may duplicate, print, record, write notes about, or capture (electronically or by any other means) any portion of a secure assessment instrument (paper or online)
Only students may respond to test questions, including performing calculations, using strategies, and creating rough drafts to written responses

After each test administration, the CTC will
collect and destroy any reference materials
students have written on and any scratch or
graph paper used during an assessment

TEA Resource
Once in awhile, there are situations that occur during testing that are
locally reported, but not reported to TEA as an actual irregularity.
You would need to call your Area Assessment
Specialist to be advised
Examples:
Fire alarm during testing, but no security breach occurred
Student writes on the wrong portion of the answer document or uses a
mechanical pencil on part of the test, but because of active monitoring,
the student is redirected and the situation is remedied

Reporting of Disciplinary Actions Taken Against
Students for Cheating on State Assessments
11/14/2014DCCM: O 24
Many times when student actions are
deemed cheating, it is found due to good
active monitoring on the part of test
administrators. It is common for CTCs to
think these are called “incidents,” but
indeed they are not.
