Home MinisterRajnath Singh todayheld an “extremelyfruitful” meeting withBangladesh PrimeMinister SheikhHasina during whichthe two leaders dis-cussed issues of mutu-al concern, includingthe menace of terror-ism.

Singh arrived hereyesterday on a three-day visit.

“Had an extremelyfruitful meeting withthe Prime Minister ofBangladesh, SheikhHasina in Dhakatoday. We discussed a range ofbilateral and regional issues ofmutual interest,” Singh tweet-ed after his meeting withHasina at her official resi-dence.

“It is possible to uproot mil-itancy and terrorism if all thecountries in the region jointheir hands,” Singh toldHasina.

According to a BangladeshPrime Minister’s Officespokesman Singh also told theprime minister, without namingany country, that the expectedcollaborative actions were notpossible due to some nations inthe region.

During the meeting, Hasinasaid that Bangladesh and Indiahave so far settled several out-standing issues, including theland and boundary agreement,through dialogue.

“We expect that the otherissues will be sorted out throughtalks as well,” she added.

Hasina reiteratedBangladesh’s stand of not allow-ing its soil to be used by terror-ists to carry out their activitiesagainst any other country.

After his meeting withHasina, Singh along with hisBangladeshi counterpartAsaduzzaman Khan Kamal

inaugurated the largest Indianvisa centre in the world atDhaka’s Jamuna Future Park.

The new integrated state-of-the-art Indian Visa ApplicationCentre (IVAC), spread in an18,500 square feet commercialarea, will replace all the existingcentres (Motijheel, Uttara,Gulshan and Mirpur Road) inDhaka in two phases.

“The new facility wouldreplace all four existing visacentres in different parts of the(Bangladesh) capital and it willbe the lone visa centres toreceive applications without anyprior appointments,” the IndianHigh Commission in Dhaka saidin a statement.

Bangladeshis constitute oneof the largest number of visi-tors from a single country toIndia. Last year, India hadissued 1.4 million visas toBangladeshi nationals, localdaily reported.

Five Bangladeshi citizenswere issued visas of different

categories to mark the openingof the centre, which has 48 coun-ters and other facilities, includ-ing food shops.

“The location of the newIVAC inside a spacious andsecure shopping mall is expectedto provide comfortable andseamless visa services to appli-cants and is expected to reducewaiting time considerably,” thestatement said.

During his visit, Singh willco-chair the 6th India-Bangladesh Home Minister-level talks tomorrow, along withhis Bangladeshi counterpartAsaduzzaman Khan Kamal.(PTI)
