Transcript of Stardust Memories

Stardust Memories sing-alongs provide a cheerful link

to the past and nourishment in the present for residents

of retirement communities, assisted living facilities, and

nursing homes.

Pianist John Martin Barger engages senior groups in

a celebration of their music – playing songs they know

and love and using large print lyric books so words are

easy to see and sing. His selections are pulled from

an extensive repertoire of favorites, including patriotic

pieces, hymns, and show tunes, as well as classics by Bing

Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and many

more. Irresistible melodies like “Somewhere Over the

Rainbow” and “Edelweiss” light up any group with singing

and smiles, while other songs lead to happy connections

and conversations. Programs can be tailored to fit special

occasions or themes.

John Martin Barger comes from a large family where older generations have been a meaningful part of his life. While learning piano as a child, he particularly enjoyed music from the 1930s and ’40s, which often led to impromptu sing-alongs with seniors. He played keyboard for Walnut Groove, the Christian Brothers High School Jazz Band, and has sung with several choirs. John Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in art history, has studied art therapy, and is an art instructor for Colorcopia, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens’ outreach for seniors. He is also a member of the American Music Therapy Association and Professional Network on Aging.
