St. Patrick Church ~ a Viatorian Parish 33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 15, 2015
People of Hope
Today the liturgy speaks to us of God's judgment and the end of time.
When and how the very end will come is known to God alone.
But this we know for sure: the end time has begun with Christ,
when he became one of us in his humanity and then died and rose from the dead.
With him among us now we live our faith even in the trials of life,
not in fear but in the firm hope that God's love and justice will triumph
and that Christ will complete in us
- in God's good time -
what we try to build up as we trust in him.
For we are people of hope in a loving and saving God.
And so we pray …
Lord, God of hope,
you have saved us in the past,
you give us your Son in the present,
and our future lies in your hands,
yet you entrusted it also to us.
Help us to seek this future as a challenge to be creative
and to build up a new world by the power of Jesus Christ,
who will complete your work in us.
Open our eyes and make us see him already walking by our side.
Keep us faithful in hope
and vigilant in our love for you
and our concern for one another.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen. Liturgy Alive
The Scripture Readings for today
also point to hope
in the midst of the problems we face.
“Those who lead the many to justice
shall be like the stars forever.”
“My words will not pass away.”
Today’s Readings
do not have to leave us
with just a sense of guilt
or hopelessness.
Our social teaching offers us
enduring values that give us hope in the midst of the social problems of our world.
Pope Francis, in Laudato Si, tells us: Human beings, while capable of the worst, are also capable
of rising above themselves, choosing again what is good, and making a new start, despite their
mental and social conditioning. Education for Justice

For Reflection … My words will not pass away. • What do you take
along with you when you die? • Is there any
correlation between love and the Word of God
that does not pass away? • Is there anything you
can you do to stretch your capacity to love?

The Scriptures today challenge us and our world to get our values in order, to focus on those
things that are really important, and to take risks trusting in the generous power which God has
been given to us. John Bucki, S.J.
PRAYER FOR
THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and men to
pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels
of poverty, chastity, and obedience. During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous
witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of
holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and
daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the
Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Father John Peeters, CSV,
Brother Michael Gosch, CSV,
and Father Dan Lydon, CSV,

will be held at 3:00 p.m.
on Sunday, November 22,
at Our Savior Lutheran Church,
975 W. Brookmont Boulevard.
Organized by the River Valley Clergy Alliance, of which our pastor is a member, this
service will provide an opportunity for people of different faith traditions to come together
to give thanks to the Lord for blessings received and to support the “Blessings in a
Backpack” program, which provides weekend meals for more than two hundred students
in the tri-city area. All Saint Patrick parishioners are cordially invited to join their pastor
at this special service.
Thank You
for your generous response
in support of the 24th Annual

May the Lord of the Harvest bless
YOU abundantly!
Hearts of Hope Teen Group
Our Teen Group will be hosting
TAIZÉ PRAYER on Sunday, November 22,
at 7:00 p.m.
at St. Teresa Church.
Taizé worship is for ALL AGES!
It is a very simple, deeply restful, contemplative
way of worship started by a monastic community in France.
There is no preaching or teaching, just very short songs that repeat,
prayers, Scripture, and silence. And lots of candles!
Advent is only 2 weeks away! Advent is about the extraordinary breaking into the ordinary.
It is a season marked by preparation, anticipation, and waiting.
To prepare, we offer this opportunity so that,
as the world counts down the shopping days until Christmas,
we prepare our hearts and minds and spirits
for the arrival of Jesus, our Savior.
INTER-PARISH ADVENT SERIES: 2015 Praying and Sharing Together in This Holy Season of Advent
Participants will use the Advent issue of THE WORD AMONG US, which will be provided.
These sessions will be facilitated by Sister Theresa Galvan, CND, and Sister Helen Kavanaugh,
CND. For your convenience, there will be three sites for these sessions. Choose the one that
works best for you.

Our last five minutes on earth are running out.
We can spend those minutes in meanness, exclusivity,
and self-righteous disparagement of those who are different from us,
or we can spend them consciously embracing every glowing soul who wanders within our reach
– those who, without our caring, would find the vibrant, exhilarating path of life
just another sad, forsaken road. Alice Walker

What are we trying to do? We are trying to get to heaven, all of us. We are trying
to lead a good life. We are trying to talk about, and write about, the Sermon on
the Mount, the Beatitudes, and the social principles of the Church. It is most
astounding – the things that happen when you start trying to live this way.

November – the Month of Saints, People Like Us Through Baptism we become part of a family much larger than our biological family. It is a
family of people "set apart" by God to be light in the darkness. These set-apart people are called
saints. Although we tend to think about saints as holy and pious, and picture them with halos
above their heads and ecstatic gazes, true saints are much more accessible. They are men and
women like us, who live ordinary lives and struggle with ordinary problems. What makes them
saints is their clear and unwavering focus on God and God's people. Some of their lives may
look quite different, but most of their lives are remarkably similar to our own. The saints are our
brothers and sisters, calling us to become like them. Henri Nouwen
