How do you see linkages between Gender and Climate change ???

???

Do you think Climate change affect on Gender or SRH?

How?

3

General assumptions

Population

growth

High carbon

emission/ pollution

Climate

change

Assumption; Need to find Solution to

population growth

NOW,,,,, let’s RETHINK !!!

Population growth and climate change agendaHighly populated area?

High energy consumption?

Hunger is not the result of ‘too many mouths’ to feed

People go hungry because they do not have the land on which to grow food or the money with which to buy it.

• led to abuse, coercion and violation of women’s fundamental rights. 9 out of 12 population policies examined policy aim in birth control, with the burden of contraception mostly on women. (ARROW)

• Women’s human right to choose about her fertility

• Eg: China’s one child policy, Son’s preference in South-Asia

Why global south more vulnerable?• What is global south??• 20% of the population are responsible for 80% of the

accumulated carbon build-up in the atmosphere. • the vast majority of population growth is taking place

in developing countries where average consumption and GHG emission rates are far lower

• Blame to global south whereas North is mostly responsible

• Some glimpse of the effect

Flood in the Philippines

Landslide in Nepal

Water scarcity in south Asia

Drowning Maldives

Deforestation in Borneo, Indonesia

Pacific islands

• Women being most vulnerable to bear the cost of Climate change (life saving skills during calamities, collector for basic supply to family, migration, spousal migration- HIV)

• Gendered agenda- Capitalism in Climate change agenda

Women’s bodies should not be the vehicle for climate change solutions, but concern for the impact of climate change on women should prompt effective as well as rights- respecting efforts to control greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE).

How CC is affecting SRH of young people?

What can be done in terms of advocacy to deal with CC impact on young people?
