St. Stephen of Hungary,
King (August 16) Stephen, the
son of noble parents who
had recently converted to
Catholicism, was educated
under the care of St. Adalbert, Bishop
of Prague. When he succeeded his
father as Duke of the Hungarians, he
established peace with the
neighboring countries and then set to
removing idolatry from his country. He
had a great devotion to the Blessed
Virgin and placed all his subjects
under her special patronage. Upon the
request of his people, the Pope
granted him the title of King, and he
was crowned in the year 1000.
Stephen divided his time between the
duties of religion and those of
kingship. He died on August 15,
1038. Patron of Hungary
St. Joan Delanoue,
Religious (August 17) Born in
France in 1666, Joan was the
youngest of twelve children.
When her mother died, Joan
took over running the religious goods
store, but closed it in 1698 to help
care for orphans. After six years, Joan
and a few companions formed a
community called the Sisters of St.
Anne of the Province of Saumur. With
help from St. Louis de Montfort, she
continued her work with orphans. She
lived a life of austerity, despite painful
ailments, and became known for the
healings obtained through her
intercession. Joan died on August 17,
1736.
St. Pius X, Pope (August 21)
Giuseppe Sarto, born in Italy, was
ordained in 1858, appointed
bishop of Mantua in 1884,
and named cardinal and
patriarch of Venice in 1893.
When Pope Leo XIII died,
Cardinal Sarto succeeded him as
Pope Pius X. As pope, he waged an
unwavering war against the heresy
and evils of Modernism, demanding
an oath against Modernism by every
priest. He brought about the
codification of Canon Law. He
restored and encouraged frequent
reception of Holy Communion,
especially by children. Pope Pius X
also restored the Society of Jesus and
helped conserve it when the French
occupied Rome. Pope Pius died in
Rome on November 11.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ August 16, 2020
Dear Prince of Peach Families,

At Saint Dominic Academy, we are excited to welcome
back all of our students to our schools this month.
Through a summer of planning and preparation, we are
ready to safely offer inperson instruction. This news has
been wellreceived by the families of St. Dom’s and the
greater LewistonAuburn community. As the principal
for the middle school, which serves grades 6, 7, and 8, I
can share that we currently have a waiting list for each of
our grades. Among the safety protocols that will be in
place, putting students into singleclass cohorts that stay
together each school day. We are currently reviewing
plans to safely add another cohort to accommodate those
families that would like enroll their children in our school
to benefit from a Catholic education on a daily, inperson
basis.

During the middle school years, students go through a
period of rapid growth and development that is only
exceeded by a child’s first year of life. In our middle level
educational experience, we gear the learning process
towards meeting the unique developmental needs of
students in this age group.

As a Catholic school, prayer and faith are at the heart of
student life. Our rigorous academic schedule that includes
math, English, science, social studies, world language
(French & Spanish), art, music, and physical education
also includes a daily theology/religion class. In addition,
we begin and end each school day with prayer.
Previously, all students have attended weekly Mass
together. This year, we will have Mass on a rotating basis
to keep our numbers in attendance below CDC
requirements. Our Chaplin, Fr. Seamus Griesbach, is an
integral part of the lives of our students and their journey
to adulthood
Should you have interest in enrolling your child or
children at St. Dom’s at any level, I encourage you to
contact Dawn Theriault, our Director of Enrollment, at
(207) 7826911.

God Bless you and your families as we all head back to
school.

BREAKING BREAD MISSALS
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we
had to remove all of the Breaking
Bread Missals from our churches.
It does not look like we will be
putting them back anytime soon.
So, we are offering them to you,
the parishioners, next weekend,
August 15 and 16! The missals
will be placed in the church
lobbies for you to take. You must take them home with
you after every mass and bring them back with you at the
following mass. If anyone in your household is not able
to attend mass in person, please take a copy for them to
use when they watch the live stream masses!
These books are expensive so if you are able and would
like to donate to help offset the cost of next year’s
missals that would be wonderful! There will be a box on
the table for your donations! These missals will be at
Holy Cross, Holy Family, Holy Trinity and Our Lady of the
Rosary. If you have any questions, please call Joline at
the parish office 777-1200.
Every year each parish is asked to host a missionary to
speak on the work of their community for the
Missions. This year, because of the pandemic, we can
only do this online. You may go to our website to support
this community that was scheduled to come to our
parish.

Pilgrimage for Restoration
Come to restore. The rest will come.
What is the Pilgrimage for Restoration?
In its third decade, the 25th annual pilgrimage is a spiritual journey of the faithful to the place where Ss. Isaac Jogues, René
Goupîl, Jean de la Lande and heroic convertnatives of New France were martyred now 378 years ago. It is conducted in
public honor of Christ Our King, for the restoration by grace of new Christendom, and in reparation for sins against the
Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Invoking the intercession of America’s saints and martyrs, pilgrims desire that Catholic Faith restore every dimension of our
lives: hearts, families, workplaces, parishes, neighborhoods, cities, dioceses, the American nations.

The pilgrimage is an exercise of penance and prayer, of contradiction and restoration, having both a personal & social
character. Modeled on the annual Pentecost Pilgrimage to NotreDame de Chartres, France, we embrace the traditional
doctrine & practice of Holy Church, with all its demands.

A special intention of the pilgrimage is the restoration of the Catholic family, civil society and the specifically Roman
liturgical & spiritual inheritance. We hope thereby to show our attachment to the Church’s tradition East & West and the
riches it contains: not with an intention of reverting to some bygone era, but rather of drawing benefits from the ancient
sources and putting them to work in the world today.
