Some Eco-friendly products and their non- Eco-friendly

counter parts : A Comparison

CONTENT

• What is eco-friendly product?• Why to use eco-friendly products?• A comparison of some Eco-friendly

products and their non- Eco-friendly counter parts-

• Paper bags and Plastic bags• LED bulbs and Incandescent bulb• Natural gas and Petroleum• Some Electrical Appliances

What is eco-friendly product?

• Eco-friendly products refer to those products that do not affect or cause any harm to the environment.

• The term Eco-friendly most commonly refers to products that contribute to green living or practices that helps to conserve resources like water and energy.

Why to use eco-friendly products?

• Do not harm the environment• To minimize carbon footprint or the emission of

greenhouse gases• To maintain ecological balance• To reduce exploitation of resources • Save energy• can be recycled and reused• Value• Shifting to Eco-friendly products a great move

towards Sustainability

Paper bags and plastic bags

Paper bags•Paper comes from trees•made from a renewable resource •can biodegrade •are recyclable

Plastic bags•Plastic comes from oil•Can be reused•Non-biodegradable•Highly recyclable

Facts

• On Resource Use – Renewable Versus Non-Renewable Resources

• On Manufacturing - Plastic Bag Manufacturing is More Environmentally Friendly

• On Solid Waste – Paper Generates More Waste

• On Recycling - Both Bag Types are Highly Recyclable

• On Reuse – Plastic Outperforms Paper

LED’s

Positives• Long lasting• Very less power consumption• More brighter• 50,000 hours or more if properly engineered• Very Low energy consumption• No mercury is used as in CFL’s• Available in a multitude of colors• Pure white light means no color will be filtered out.• Low functioning temperature

Negatives• Less potential output• Slightly more expensive to purchase

Incandescent Bulbs

Positives• Cheap• Be generally stronger light output• Better for seeing through Fog and Smoke

Negatives• Very short life about 1000 hours• Very inefficient• Heavy on power consumption• Yellowish color filters out anything with

yellow in it, i.e., White looks yellow, yellow doesn’t show, red looks brown, green looks black.

Natural Gas

• CNG –compressed natural gas • It is substitute fossil fuel for DIESEL,PETROL,PROPANE• It is cheap than other fuels• CNG produces up to 95% less carbon monoxide compared to

gasoline and diesel• CNG-powered vehicles have lower maintenance costs than other

hydrocarbon-fuel-powered vehicles• Increased life of lubricating oils

Drawbacks• It require a greater amount of space for fuel storage than

conventional gasoline powered vehicles• Increased vehicle cost

Petroleum Fuel

Advantages• It is highly available• it can provide better performance• It is fairly safe to store• Due to its liquid form, it is easy to transport

Disadvantages• Produces more carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide , a major cause

of global warming• It is a limited resource

Some Electrical appliances

Refrigerators & Air Conditioners• Digital Inverter Technology in Compressor• Comes with energy rating

Televisions• LED is preferable to LCD• It consumes up to 40% less power for the same

size display
