Introduction:
A museum is an institution that cares for (conserves) acollection of artifacts and other objects of scientific,artistic, cultural, or historical importance and makes themavailable for public viewing through exhibits that may bepermanent or temporary. Government of India hasdecided to set up an Heritage Museum at Kashmere Gatein New Delhi.
Need Of Project:Delhi attracts thousands of tourists every year from all overthe world because of the Heritage Status granted to it byUNESCO. Keeping in view the heritage importance andavailability of the space it is proposed to set up a Museumat women history.
Objectives Of Project:The main objective is to design a Museum on the theme“Queens/Royalty and Prominent/women of Delhi form 17thto 19th century” would be a major tourist attraction.
Landmark:Maharana Pratap ISBT is just before site in south directionfrom site.Shahi mashjid is situated at adjacent south side of theproposed site.
City Architecture:Much of New Delhi, planned by the leading 20th-centuryBritish architect Edwin Lutyens, was laid out to be thecentral administrative area of the city as a testament toBritain's imperial pretensions. It have influences from bothHindu and Islamic architecture. India Gate, RashtrapatiBhavan , Qutub Minar, Humayu’s Tomb are some majorstructures in New Delhi.

Road connectivity: Site is accessible through almost all modesof transportation. Site is directly connected with Asianhighway 2 & Yamuna Marg which is 30m and 18m widerespectively .

55790 sqm(13.7 acres)Shape: The site is Irregular Polygon in shape

Orientation: The site is a little stretched, the orientation of the site is East-West.
Soil Conditions: Alluvial soil is there on the site. Usually these soils are very productive but many are deficient in nitrogen, humus and phosphorus. The bearing capacity of the soil is 150 kN/m² on the site.
Seismic Zone: the seismic zone of the site is IV.
Topography: Site has very gentle slope which runs towards the connecting road (AH2) in front of it.

Introduction: This is a National Science Museum locates at the Pragati Maidan
Complex on Bhairon Marg, New Delhi. The museum established in 1992 designed by Achyut P. Kanvinde
The footfall of the museum is 4,00,000 persons per year.
Facilities:
There are 30 parking for car and 30 parking for 2 wheelers. There are A.C. conference hall which has three sections with
temporary folding partitions having seats 28, 16 &12 respectively. The Centre has a fully air conditioned auditorium having a seating
capacity of 320.
Circulation: Center has forced system of circulation Visitor, upon entering on the first floor is taken to the third floor via
escalator. Then he visits a half circuit of the third floor galleries, take the stairs to
the fourth floor to do a complete loop of the galleries. Then he come down to the other half of the third floor. From here he
find his way to the galleries below on the second floor. Galleries on fourth floor are under repair.
Services: Underground fire-tank of 2000000L capacity. A 200Ton A.C. plant used for auditorium. There are 2 additional plants of 25Ton for each Seminar halls.
Lighting: Artificial lighting is done in all the galleried with daylight exhibits kept to
minimum. Sky lighting through fiberglass skylights is also done in galleries.

Structure: Whole structure of the museum is
trabeated. Building is trabeated structure using
high strength R.C.C & red sandstone.
Flat slab with drop beam used inbuilding .
Floor to floor height is approx. 4 m. Some extra temporary structure
provided around building.
Finishes: All external facades have finishing of
yellow paint, sandstone and redsandstone.
All internal walls are plastered &colored according to theme.
False ceiling done in exhibition areas All floor finish are terrazzo, wooden,
tiles & rubber flooring.
Observations: Separate entrance for VIP. Stone sculptures are places around the
building. There are 3 front entry in building but
only 1 in use due to security purpose. A loosed movement system is provided
in the building. Museum shop and institute is an
additional advantage. Seating arrangements has been made
for the visitors to observe the object ofinterest on display.
Toilet is not properly placed in building. No extra fire fighting stairs in building.
No natural light used in exhibition area. Museum have its galleries rotating
around an open courtyard, no views isprovided.
Sculpture in central gallery is not visibleproperly due to glare from back.
Introduction: This is a National Museum locates at the Janpath Road
connected with Rajpath, New Delhi. The museum was prepared by Maurice Gwyer
Committee in May 1946 at central courtyard concept.The footfall of the museum is 2,00,000 persons per year.
Facilities:
There is a central A.C. system in the National Museum,New Delhi.
Cafeteria is provided in center at ground floor. The capacity of auditorium is 250 persons. Different entry is provided for physical handicapped.
Circulation: Museum has loosed circulation. Visitor enter in exhibition area form gallery left hand
side of token counter. All exhibition hall is connected with each other with a
center circulation court 6m wide. Exhibition area of different floors are connected with
stairs and lifts. Toilet is provided on the staircase.
Services: Underground fire-tank is provided. Conservation lab is provided on the second floor of
the museum. Network jammer is used in jewelry exhibition area. A common store is provided in basement. A.C. plan room, electrical, substation and workshop
provided in basement. One store room is provided with each exhibition area.

Virtual Case StudyIntroduction: This is a Museum of Islamic Art locates at the Doha, Qatar. Doha is capital of Qatar (near Saudi Arabia). Climate of Doha, Qatar is hot dry desert. The museum's interior gallery spaces were designed by a team lead by JM Wilmotte of Wilmotte Associes. The museum is designed by Architect I.M. Pei in 8.6 acres . Project year: 2005 - 2008
Objective: The Museum of Islamic Art is dedicated to reflecting the full vitality, complexity and diversityof the arts of the
Islamic world. As a centre for information, research and creativity, the museum aim to reach a wide global audience and serve
as a hub for dialogue and cultural exchange.

Key design element of Islamic Architecture that he found at Mosque of Ahmad Ibn Tulunin Cairo, Egypt (9th
century) .
Structure and material
Stand-alone island be created to ensure future buildings would never encroach on the Museum.
The building stand in the sea come 195 feet off Doha’s Corniche.
A landscape of aprox 64 acres of dunes and oases on the shoreline behind the Museum offers shelter
and a picturesque backdrop.
Built of fine materials, such as cream coloured Magny and Chamesson limestone from france, Jer
Mist Granite from US.
Circulation
The museum id composed of a five-storey main building and a two-storey Educational Wing, which
connected across a central courtyard.
In the main building there are a large entrance foyer which is connected with temporary exhibition
space, coffee shop, museum shop and auditorium.
Then through the staircase and lift we can access the other floor of main building.
All exhibition spaces are directly connected with the central courtyard.
Two more lanterns, each 100 feet tall, mark the boat dock on the west side of the museum, creating
grand entrance for guest arriving by boat.
Features of building
The main building has a 164-foot high domed atrium, which is concealed from outside view by the
walls of a central tower.
A glass curtain wall on the north side of the museum.
Ceiling are embellished with intricate coffered domes. And perforated metal chandeliers hand in the
atrium.
