There are a lot of chores to do there and only a few volunteers. The
animals have to be cared for whether volunteers show up or not, and
many of the current volunteers are seniors. They often find it difficult
to stay to a regular schedule. Most of the chores involve cleaning and
washing, not the most exciting type of chore, but one that is required
daily. Dog walking would also be helpful.

Sunrise Youth Care Center in Escondido is in need of a few mature men
who would be willing to mentor their boys. They especially need men
who are of African American and Hispanic descent. They prefer men
who are in their 30's‐40's, and men who perhaps grew up in foster care
or were in trouble with the law before they turned their lives around.

Have you ever wanted to volunteer with teens and young adults with
special needs? Do you have a desire to help others? If so, this could be
a great opportunity for you. This group helps teens with special needs
(such as autism) learn the dynamics of building friendships, social skills
and self‐expression through fresh and creative avenues. Drawing on
peers and professionals from the music community, this group
experiences music recording, instrument exploration, improvisational
songwriting, drumming and other projects based on the interests and
needs of the group. This pilot program will involve a total of 6 jam
sessions, and volunteers (peer mentors) must be able to attend all six
sessions to sign up. Each Jam Session will feature a special “rock star”
guest musician and will be facilitated by board‐certified music
therapists. Peer mentor will help nurture inclusion opportunities for
this special group. Each peer mentor will be paired with a teen as a
buddy for the duration of the six sessions and must attend a
mandatory training session prior to the first group. This opportunity
will be once a month on Wednesdays from 7:30‐8:30pm starting in the
fall of 2012.
