Unit 6: Bonding Week 2

SHS Chemistry 2014-2015

Monday, February 2

LEARNING TARGETI will be able to perform learning

targets E1 and E2.

WARM UPCopy today’s learning targets into

your notes organizer from your bonding learning targets document.

Seats and Roles

Seat A- Document Controller

Seat B- Spokesperson

Seat C- Manager

Seat D- Reader

VSEPR POGIL

Be sure that you are fully completing your role for the activity.

Do not rush. We will be working on this today and tomorrow, stopping periodically to check in as a whole class.

Work as a group.

Stop Sign 1 Check In

Stop Sign 1 Check In

Pairs of electrons with (attract/repel) each other.

Two bonds on the same atom will try to get as (close to/far apart from) each other as possible.

A lone pair of electrons and a bonded pair of electrons will (push away from/move toward) each other.

Stop Sign 2 Check In

Tuesday, February 3

LEARNING TARGETI will be able to perform learning

targets E1 and E2.

WARM UPContinue working on the VSEPR POGIL

activity from yesterday. Keep the same roles.

Thursday, February 5

LEARNING TARGETI will be able to perform learning

targets E1 and E2.

WARM UPClear your tables of everything except

the paper you got today, the activity from yesterday, and something to

write with.

VSEPR Lab

Work as a group to draw the Lewis Structures of each of the compounds on the compound cards provided. Determine the Molecular geometry of each and write it on the card.

When you think you have them all, check in with your teacher. Once checked, record the information on your data collection sheet.

Once approved, use your Lewis Structures to build (using gum drops and toothpicks) a model for each compound. Be sure to consider proper bond angles.

When you think you have them all check in again.

Wrap Up- VSEPR Lab

Tomorrow

If you are in class you will complete the VSEPR tutorial online.

If you are out for Jostens, you will be responsible for completing the assignment over the weekend.

It will be collected for a grade.

Friday, February 6

LEARNING TARGETI will review/practice learning targets E1

and E2.

WARM UPGet a computer and sign in on the

computer sign out sheet. Please note how your computer is in the cart, it will need to be put back in the same way at

the end of class.

Independent Practice Questions?

VSEPR Tutorial

Use the handout to walk through the molecular shape tutorial on the PhET webpage.

A link to the tutorial can be found on Mrs. Lallemand’s teacher webpage.

We will take the quiz the last 15 minutes of class.
