Hammer “tap” testing shock measurements.

– Small hammer repeated blows

3 foot long steel pipe

– 1.6 inches diameter

– .060 inch wall thickness

– Free/free support – natural frequency ringing

MIDE slam stick model C data logger

– Measure acceleration time signal

– Process FFT and PSD

– Calculate attenuation in decibels – end to end

– Calculate damping %

Data logger – triaxial accelerometer

Input shock – material damping 260 hz ringing
