Controversy Case Study• Participants act as interest groups taking a stance on a
controversial scientific issue (stem cells) which is receiving media attention.
• Format: 5 groups Scientists and organisations who believe in using only adult stem cell material for research Scientist and organisations who believe that both adult and embryonic stem cell material should be
used An alliance of religious groups who would allow limited research using adult stem-cell material or
cord blood only Pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies Patient forums and interest groups
• Each interest group prepares and then presents its case to the Citizens’ Jury.
• Legal, media and citizens’ jury advisors are available
