Senior ProjectsThe 4 P’s

• Paper: A 3(or more) page research paper

• Project: 15 or more hours

• Presentation: Approximately 10 minutes.

• Portfolio: A reflective portfolio detailing the process the student followed

Paper

• A 3(or more) page research paper on the topic or project area chosen by the student.

• The paper must meetspecific formatting guidelines – 10-12 pt. front– double spaced & one inch margins– a title page– correctly cited sources

Project

• 15 or more hours are required

• The ‘project’ can be just about anything

• New ideas are best and are encouraged

• Examples of projects include: – Internships in the community– Volunteering at community service providers– Science projects presented in science fairs– Humanitarian work– Entrepreneurship

Presentation

• Approximately 10 minutes

• Can be given in a variety of situations– Science Fairs– Public performances– Competitions– Presentation to a panel of

teachers/community members

Presentation• The presentation should cover and expand

on the information in the paper– Discuss the experiences with the project. – Demonstrate or talk about the skills they

learned or practiced during the project. – Discuss how these skills will benefit the

student after graduation. – Visual aids are required.– Use of technology is encouraged. – Questions and answers.

Portfolio• A reflective portfolio detailing the process

the student followed to complete the project is required.

• Portfolios include– Pictures of the project– Journal entries– Reflections– Work samples– Other products that chronicle and

demonstrate the student’s progress.

So What is Next?• Writing proposals during the next advisory period and during your

English classes.• Sophomores:

– Practice writing a proposal.• Juniors:

– Complete a proposal this year to help prepare for your project next year.

• Seniors:– Start working on your project once your proposal is approved.– Project should be completed by May 1st.

• Paper written, portfolio completed, presentation done.

• Next Meeting: October 27th

• Proposals Due: November 24th
