Second Conditional

The second conditional is used to refer to “impossible” situations.

• If we were in London today, we would be able to go to the concert in Hyde Park.

• If I had millions dollars, I'd give a lot to charity.• If there were no hungry people in this world, it

would be a much better place.• If everyone had clean water to drink, there

would be a lot less disease.

• If I had a million dollars, I would give a lot to charity.

• To talk about things in the present that you would or wouldn’t do if the situation was different.

• If I had his phone number, I would call him.

• (you don’t have the number, so you can’t call.)

• If I could find her address, I would send her an invitation to my party.
