Scholastic Book Fair a
Success!
The annual Scholastic Book Fair was once again greatly supported by the school community. Almost $606.46 profit (cash and books) was raised. All proceeds go directly to the school library. Ms Hollander is very grateful to the Book Fair committee which helped to set up, maintain, and take down the Book Fair is such an efficient and enthusiastic manner. Thank you to everyone who supported this literacy initiative.
All schools in the York Region District
School Board are committed to improv-
ing student achievement and well-being.
On Thursday, June 29, 2017, an early release day will take place to
allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings
during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will allow for
school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review
and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end
and transition activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school dur-
ing the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017 only. Students will be
dismissed early that day at 11:50am. Arrangements will be made to
ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will
receive transportation at this time. Parents/guardians whose chil-
dren attend after school child care should make appropriate ar-
rangements to address this change in schedule.
Class Placements for 2017-2018
At this time of year our staff begins the comprehensive process of creating tentative class lists for the
next year. Our primary goal is to develop safe and supportive classes that balance gender, interests,
learning styles and promote peer relationships.
Again this year, as a result of Ministry guidelines regarding class sizes, we will be working on the
school organization, teacher assignments and class placements over the summer and into
September 2017 so students will continue to find out their class placement on the first day of school in September.
DRESS CODE
As the weather turns warm, we would like to remind everyone of our school dress code. The full dress code is clearly laid out in the front of our student agendas. Please review these general guidelines with
your child.
Midriffs must be covered
All undergarments must be covered at all times.
Thanks for your ongoing support of this school policy.
Please remember to send your child with applied
sunscreen, hat and reusable water bottle.
Any requests from parents for records and information related to CRA Tax Benefit
applications, etc will be handled by our Community Education Centre during the
summer. The phone number is 905 727 0022.
Message from our Trustee– Peter Adams– Luchowski
As we near the end of the school year, I want to thank you for all that you do to strengthen our schools and communities. This is a good time to celebrate your child’s achievements over the past year.
One of our goals in the Trustees’ Multi-Year Plan is to “continuously increase student achievement and well-being through a culture and caring and learning.” That includes a culture that emphasizes engage-ment and positive relationships among all the members of the school community – students, staff mem-bers, families and community members.
You, as parents/guardians, are our most important partners when it comes to education. The support you have provided to your child throughout this past school year will help to strengthen our schools and make a difference to your child’s learning.
I encourage you to continue engaging your child in learning throughout the summer, and to help them to see the connections between what they are learning in school and the world around them. There are so many opportunities to do this over the summer, whether that’s planning a budget with your child, enjoy-ing the natural beauty in York Region, reading a book or visiting local sites. Whatever your plans are this summer, I wish you all a successful end to the school year, and a safe and enjoyable summer.

Planning Ahead….
Thank you to everyone for all your support in making this a successful and eventful
year at Schomberg P.S. We are all looking forward to the excitement of the events in
June followed by a wonderful summer.
You will receive your child’s report card on Tuesday, June 27th.
If for any reason, other than graduation, your children will not be returning to Schomberg P.S. in Septem-
ber 2017, please let us know. We require this information whether they are leaving permanently or just
extending a vacation beyond the first day of school.
If neighbours move in over the summer and inquire about registration, please let them know that in- for-
mation will be posted on the front door of the school directing them to a central location where the regis-
tration process will be taken care of during the summer.
This year we would like to thank our dedicated volunteers with a special light
breakfast which will take place on Monday June 26, 2017 in the gym from 8:15-
8:45am.
If you have volunteered in any capacity this year, please come and join us. We are
most grateful for all the jobs you do including driving to sporting events, escorting groups on field trips,
organizing and handing out hot lunch, being part of the School Council, reading with our students, coach-
ing school athletic clubs and teams, producing the school yearbook, facilitating artistic projects ,…. the
list goes on and on. We will not be sending out personalized invitations but want you to know that you
that you are welcomed and appreciated-we don’t want to miss anyone! So we hope to celebrate with as
many as we can that morning and toast you with a fresh cup of coffee or orange juice!
