Edged Space: Sangdo’s conjunction of small roads and edged corners lets people to meet accidentally. Three zone such as Soongsil University, residential area and the commercial area has made an interesting atmosphere. However, these distinctive characteristics are in danger because of the city’s revival plan. The emphasis on this project was to preserve these random meetings through Edged Space, a meeting point for the community.

PROJECT INFO.

This project started with a question “what is art?” and “how should we display art?” I believe that art is a tool to show there is a supernatural power surrounding us. It is a form to show that what we see and believe is not all there is. Photography is a perfect medium to show this notion. A photo can be realistic and on the other hand deceiving. It allows us to see things differently. By using these elements in photog-raphy such as light, contrast, frame, dimension and form, I attached these concepts into a museum building.

MULTI-COMPLEX SHOPPING MALL, STATION

97/100

YONGSAN , SEOUL

126,930.9 ㎡

PROJECT INFO.

Yongsan International Business District (YIBD) has revealed there plan for 2022. However the old Yongsan Train station has become excluded from the plan for economic reasons. This mass urban planning needed an integrated station to main-tain its vitality, but the YIBD project decided to not go with the renovation of the station. Since it places in the middle of Yongsan Central Park and YIBD, this project focused on the urban relationship of the new district, new park, and the historical station of yongsan.

URBAN JUNCTION :HISTORICAL RAILROAD REVIVAL

1. Injecting unused space in the packed urban fabric is inevitable

Urban life needs some unused space to make life more rech

2. Muti-complex buildings has no like with the community

Compact city has abundace of unused space

In the past, unused spaces are spread across the city

The present city’s compact state allows these unused space to be stacked

Current Muti-complex buildings

Severance from the urban fabric

Kyung-In railway was the first train rail in Korea. In the year 1905, the rail extended to Busan and became the initial departing station. The YIBD plans to bury this historical railway to use the land for development. However, since it has more than 120 years of historical value to it, it should be preserved. This project suggests to use this historical artefact as a main design source and preserve it as a sunken rail park.

PROJECT INFO.

Yanghwajin is the first and only foreign missionary cemetery in Seoul. Most of the famous and noticeable missionaries has been buried at this site. This cemetery is unique for having both Christian and Catholic shrine. However, it has not been no-ticed until recent years. Because of it’s unique history and sense of place, it should be a landmark for the Christianity. Furthermore, this park should not only be used to the pilgrims who visit here, but also the local community should be able to use it as a daily park.

Mapo oil silo was used during the cold war and until the 2002 World Cup Stadium was erected. It has been abandoned for more than 10 years. This projects goal was to reuse the silo as an green energy source and build a zero energy park with sports facilities. The park transforms into a huge green energy park with spaces for the various sports users.

VOLUNTEERCAMP COUNSLER, MISSION WORK, YOUTH WORKER

Every year since 2005, I have done volunteer work at Institution of Light Finders(ILF) and at Samil Church. I have served more than 800 hours of volunteer work as a camp counsel-lor including counselling at a YMCA Camp in USA called Camp Fitch through ICCP. Each Winter, I visit Tongyoung, a southern city in Korea , for a week to do winter school at a church. I also have worked with teen-agers for 8 years. Around 10 of these teenagers meet every other week to debate, interview a famouse person, volunteer at a disable center and etc..
