We are all called to be the good Samaritans in our world; to bring hope, love and healing to our neighbors. We are called to remove all our prejudices and to cultivate the love of Christ to all. There are those that threaten the lives of people thought of as an inconvenience or burden to us at every stage, birth to death. The gift of human life is not seen for its true beauty anymore. These are lives that we sometimes toss to the roadside. Jesus can act through you and me— making us true neighbors to all of those around us, especially those in danger of having their dignity torn from them. This is our calling. To be the Samaritans in a world starving for simple kindness. In the past month we have seen great witness of the good Samaritan in the presence of our mission-ary speaker, Sr. Jacinta (photo, left) from the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary from Tanzania. What a bundle of joy and a true servant of God that graced our presence. Special thanks to St. Anthony parishioner Bob Ehrsam and his wife Beth for hosting Sr. Jacinta while she was with us.
One more week until the big festival at St. Cecilia! We need all hands on deck from St. Cecilia parish especially.
I ask that St. Cecilia parishioners and anyone from the region who can, take time out of your week to help with set-up the weeknights before the festival, volunteering over the weekend and also showing up on Monday, July 22 —one of the hardest days for our festival crew. The day after the festival weekend. Everyone is exhausted from the fun and busy work of the festi-
val, but there is still a lot of work to be done on Monday to take everything down and clean up. Please keep spreading the word about the festival. If you have a Facebook page, please consider sharing the festival ad on your
page. The St. Cecilia Festival has a little bit of everything so all age groups can truly enjoy the fun. Amen? Amen!

THE BIG DIG: St. Cecilia has broken ground for a new handicap access ramp (photo 1) that will allow parishioners and patrons to more easily enter the Commons. The project is a long time in com-ing and being paid in full by the One Faith, One Hope, One Love Campaign. 1 SEMINARIAN NEWS: You may have met one of the seminarians that is living here this summer. Christopher Buschur (photo 2) has started playing the organ and singing for our evening Holy Hour. He does a really nice job and can be heard on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 for our Hour Hour at St. Cecilia. 1 ST. CECILIA EXPLORERS TRIP: The Jessie Tillery Explorers trip took place June 6 to 12. The weather in New England was beautiful, the itinerary was packed with fantastic activities, and students had a great time. Visiting Bar Harbor and Camden Maine, Boston, and Newport, Rhode Island, the second group of Explorers had an awesome trip (photo 3). They even got to sneak in a game at Fenway Park! What a terrific opportunity the Explorers program offers our students! I look forward to the newsletter that will highlight the trip and discovering where students will seek adventure next year! 1 DEMENTIA WORKSHOP: Pat Mez-inskis of St. Anthony Health Ministry introduced the speakers for a presentation (photo 4) on becoming a dementia inclusive com-munity at the 5th Sunday potluck on June 30. 1 WELCOME CHILDREN OF GOD: Welcome to St. Cecilia, Fernanda Yamileth Jimenez Pinon, daughter of Andrea and Fernando Jimenez (photo 5) and Arlo David Muchmore, son of Mallory and Eric Muchmore (photo 6). Welcome to SM-SJ, Brooklyn Marie Lee, daughter of Andra and Mike Lee (photo 7). 1 FAITHFUL DEPARTED: Michael Thomas Klein (photo 8) (son of Henry & Maryilyn Klein) passed away on June 25. A memorial Mass was celebrated on Mon-day, July 1, at St. Cecilia with Rev. Bob Goebel presiding. May he rest in peace.

Becoming CatholicCurious about the Church? Come and See Inquiry Meeting is on July 24, at 7 PM, in the St. Cecilia Commons.
SUMMER WITH THE SAINTSSt. Teresa of CalcuttaIn 1910, Teresa of Calcutta was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to devout Catholic Albanian parents in Skopje, today the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Early on, she felt called to religious life and, at eighteen, entered the Loreto Sisters of Dublin. A year later, she traveled to Darjeeling, India, for her novitiate. In 1937, she took her final vows.
Then, in 1946, Mother Teresa heard a new call: help the poor while living in their midst. With permission, she left the Sisters of Loreto and went to Calcutta, where she began the Missionaries of Charity. Though a small community at first, the numbers grew to help meet the many needs of the destitute. At her death, the congregation numbered over four thousand with thousands of lay volunteers.
Her efforts were recognized worldwide-as was her boundless energy and commitment to the poor. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her extraordinary care of the suffering.
Years of tireless giving and dealing with health concerns ended with her death in 1997. She was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II in 2003.

Sacred Music WorkshopOn Wednesday, July 24, Music & Liturgy at the Athenaeum will be hosting “Singing the Mass: Sacred Music Workshop for Pastors and Directors of Music” from 9:30 AM-4:30 PM on campus at the Athenaeum of Ohio. The workshop will focus on encouraging priests and congregations to sing the chants of the Roman Missal as well as the Mass proper.
The day will include two lectures, given by Fr. Ryan Ruiz and Dr. Mary Catherine Levri, as well as a panel discussion, led by a number of pastors and directors of music. The discussion will focus on the challenges of implementing excellent sacred music programs at the parish level. Also, a sung Mass will be offered in the late morning, at which all priests in attendance are invited to concelebrate.
While the workshop particularly intends to address the needs of parish pastors and directors of music, all who are interested are welcome to attend. The registration fee for the workshop is $15/person. This fee will cover lunch and all necessary materials. The registration deadline is July 10. Please register at athenaeum.edu/sacredmusicworkshop/.
Workshop sessions will take place in the Bartlett Pastoral Center on campus at the Athenaeum of Ohio, 6616 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45230, and parking will be available next to the Bartlett Center.
For more information, please contact Dr. Mary Catherine Levri at (513) 233-6138 or sacredmusic@athenaeum.edu.

David Endres will discuss the recently-published Soldiers of the Cross, a long-forgotten account of the war that offers the fullest record of the Catholic Church’s involvement in the conflict. Composed at the close of the war, but never before published, it contains new insights into the service of Catholic priest chaplains and sister nurses, helping to widen our understanding of American Catholic history. The talk will take place on Monday, September 16, at 7:30 PM in the Bartlett Pastoral Center on campus at the Athenaeum of Ohio.
Dr. William Kurtz is the Director of the John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia. Fr. David Endres is the Academic Dean and Associate Professor of Church History, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary/Athenaeum of Ohio

Online GivingSt. Cecilia Parish wants to provide you the convenience of being able to financially give as good stewards the way you want, whenever you want. We recently invested in a more user-friendly Online Giving Program, which includes a mobile app as well as Text Giving capabilities. You can make secure, automatic contributions from your bank or credit/debit card account to St. Cecilia Parish. Online giving costs you nothing and provides many advantages to you and the church. You don’t have to worry about having cash in your pocket, or remember to bring your envelope, or be able to contribute when you are away visiting family or vacationing. Your gift is made.
No check writing or ATM stops before church, safe, secure, and confidential transactions, use your checking/savings account or credit/debit card, schedule recurring or one-time donations, change a gift or account anytime you like, choose offertory, special funds, pledges and view your giving history at any time.
PHONE APP: You can download the ConnectNow Giving app from the App store on your iPhone and sign in.
TEXT GIVING: You can text 513-434-3577 and enter a donation amount ($5, $10, $25, etc.) The first time you will need to register your account….after that just text 513-434-3577 and a gift amount.
However you choose to give, we thank you! Your gifts are appreci-ated and are used to fuel the “storehouse” of St. Cecilia Parish to help build the Kingdom of God in Oakley and beyond.
