ST. JOSEPH Let the just man flourish like the palm tree

1. March is dedicated to St. Joseph-The entire month of March we can celebrate St. Joseph by honoring an image of him in our homes and by reciting the Litany to St. Joseph.
2. March 19 is the Feast of St. Joseph- This is the first of two feasts in honor of the Patron of the Universal Church and a Happy Death. In 1621 Gregory XVI extended this feast which had been celebrated in some places, throughout the whole Church. Bl Pius IX proclaimed him Patron of the Universal Church in 1870.
3. May 1 is St. Joseph the Worker- Originally called St. Joseph the Artisan, this feast was instituted by Pius XII in 1955 as a counterpoint to Communist celebrations on May Day, to show the Church’s value for work.
4. St. Joseph is Patron of the Universal Church- The fatherhood of Jesus extends, not just to Jesus, but to all of us in the Church universal.
5. St. Joseph is Patron of a Happy Death- Tradition holds that Jesus and Mary were with the Just Man Joseph when he died. So, we pray for his intercession that we and our loved ones too may have a happy death so that Jesus and Mary may be with us and bless us.
