Allen Family Returns August 5 Our summer gospel concerts continue with the re-turn of the Allen Family on August 5th at 6 pm. We enjoyed this multi-talented musical family 5 summers ago, and are excited to have them here again. Be sure to invite your friends and bring a lawn chair and some finger food to share after. A
love offering will be taken.
Crack Filling July 31 - Aug 1 We’ve rescheduled the work because the pave-ment must be dry to fill cracks. So please turn off your sprinklers Monday July 30 so the pavement and gutters will be dry. Remember to move your car so it is not parked on or near
any cracks (even the old ones). Thanks!

“Thanks” to everyone who joined Friends of Portage Lake. The Resort has 30 members so far, and our lake neighbors truly appreciate your sup-port. Copies of the latest newsletter are in the club-house and office. Also, remember to support the
group’s pancake breakfast on August 4.
Carers & Sharers plan to get a jump on next year by
collecting volunteer sign ups now. Please return
the attached form to the office by Oct. 1.
Don’t believe the commercials! Just because it will flush doesn’t mean it belongs. Do not put “flushable” cleaning products in sewer. They clog
our pumps and cause needless repair.

I’m glad I was sitting down when I saw the electric
bill yesterday. Wow! This is a summer we’ll remem-
ber! The effects of heat and drought will carry forward
with elevated food & ethanol prices. Long term effects
are harder to predict. Will the zebra mussel population
rebound after the low water levels? What will the
weeds do? What kind of winter is ahead?
Along with low lake water levels, the Resort sew-
age system is stressed. Our treatment ponds are too
low and too hot, so there have been some odor prob-
lems. My apologies to all who are affected. We expect
they will return to normal as we receive rain and
cooler weather. Until then, we need an easterly wind!
But like the English under siege, we will forge
ahead…with our annual appreciation dinner! Let’s
keep that stiff upper lip as we enjoy an evening of
prime rib and good entertainment. I hope you will join
us as we say “thanks” to all of you for your support
thru this challenging year.
Our family is looking forward to
the arrival of Emil, an exchange
student from Azerbaijan, on Au-
gust 7. Emil is from its capital -
Baku - which borders on the Cas-
pian Sea. He’s coming on a schol-
arship from our State Dept. in-
tended to expose teens from former
Soviet block countries to American
style democracy. Should be an interesting year! Please
join us in welcoming him to Michigan.
Summer’s not over - the best has
just begun! God Bless,

Pipeline Replacement Project
Enbridge Inc. has been replacing and re-pairing parts of line "6B" as part of its maintenance and rehabilitation program. The pipeline was built in 1969. Now company officials want to replace 200 miles of the oil pipeline in Michigan. The new pipeline would produce about 500,000 barrels of oil a day.
If plans are approved, Garcia reports the existing pipeline will be taken offline and remain in place, and the new pipeline will be built about 25 feet from the existing line. 5/10/2012 Michigan Radio online
