Mark Kaigwa's keynote address at re:publica 2012 #rp12 in Berlin, Germany in May 2012. Africa's known through two primary stereotypes of crisis and exotic nature. Beyond this if we look to NASA's night sky we see "The dark continent" however if we map both NASA's picture and that of Facebook's "Friendship Map" we see hotspots of mobile technology and upon further inspection, there's more to the continent than at first glance.This keynote, though abridged, looks at the perception of Africa, moving through time and leaves with the picture of Africa Rising economically, politically and in terms of cutting edge innovation targeting the bottom of the pyramid. Much more is to be said of Africa and if the 90s were about China, and the 2000s about the rise of India then Africa's time is upon us thanks to mobile technology and innovation.
