STRATEGIC PLANNING

Objective: To structure the International Development Committee’s priorities, supporting tasks, and measurement of progress.

STRATEGIC PROCESS

• Self-Assessment – Chamber will conduct initial SWOT analysis.

• Establish Goals – IDC will establish priorities and goals.

• Create Task Forces – The IDC will create task forces as a means to carry out its goals.

• Define Success – Each Task Force will create measurement of performance and timeline to assess progress.

NEXT STEPS

July 15 – Initial draft of SWOT, priorities, and goals.

July 17 – Strategy sent to IDC members for review.

July 28 – IDC meeting to discuss SWOT & priorities.

World Trade Week

World Trade Week

Objective: To celebrate and bring awareness to the impact of international trade and export in Irvine and Orange County.

Objective: To grow trade for Irvine’s businesses through coordination and activities with Orange county’s international chambers and business associations.

FINANCIAL WORKSHOPObjective: To introduce relevant financial knowledge to middle/high school students via a mock investment• Investment workshop consists of two meetings in a span

of 4 to 5 weeks• Mock investment with $20,000 seed money to invest in

securities (Stocks, Mutual Funds and Certificate of Deposits) and the investment portfolio will be tracked between meeting

• Prizes for Individuals and Teams 1st, 2nd and 3rd place • Simple versus Compound Interest• Real life examples presented by business facilitators

Job Shadowing & Internship

JOB SHADOWING & INTERNSHIPS

Objective:

Explore and identify job shadowing and internship opportunities for high school and college students and facilitate a sustainable job shadowing and/or internship placements for a group of students.

Relevance for the Chamber members and Irvine:• Connection with and influence on the future workforce• Service and contributions to the Irvine community• Brand building, community recognition and indirect

marketing

Outcome: Job Shadow Day, Friday, May 8th from 8am to 12pm

About Job Shadow Day & Feedback:– Three Rotations: (1) Dennis - Heart Valve

Museum/Advanced Manufacturing (2) Engineering Lifesciences (3) Quality & R&D. 

(The highlight was the) determination and passion Edwards had to make the best heart valve. The process that it takes to undergo this process is amazing!

I enjoyed learning about the entire engineering process and firm.

Objective: Honor the memory of John Colvin, ACTIVE Chamber member and former Chair of the International Committee and the Business Attraction & Retention Committee, with an annual scholarship award to deserving students.
