Priority Category Imminent Danger Fatality/Catastrophe Investigations Complaints/Referrals Follow-up or Monitoring Inspections Programmed Inspections

DOSH ConsultationDOSH Consultation

An onsite DOSH Consultation in progress has priority over a programmed inspection.

A programmed inspection will normally only be deferred or canceled if a Consultation visit is actually in progress.

Multi-Employer WorksiteMulti-Employer Worksite

If an organization has invited a DOSH Consultant on site, the Consultant will be considered on site with respect to the entire worksite.

If a DOSH Consultant has been invited by one of the subcontractors the programmed inspection of the entire worksite will not

be deferred.

Advanced NoticeAdvanced Notice

CSHOs must not normally

make appointments to conduct

programmed inspections.

ComplaintsComplaints

If a complaint is received about a worksite, and the employer is on a programmed inspection list, a comprehensive inspection should be performed whenever possible.

When the scope of a complaint inspection is converted to comprehensive, the CSHO should inform the employer that they are scheduled for an inspection, and that there is also a complaint.

Strike or Labor DisputeStrike or Labor Dispute

Programmed inspections may be deferred during a strike or labor dispute between a recognized union and the employer, or between two or more unions competing for bargaining rights in the establishment.
