What do you think each of these words mean?

PHYSICAL Definition: of or pertaining to

that which is material

Characteristics: There are mineral particles in the

soil. These particles are produced in

the Horizon D. The bedrock breaks down,

making particles. The particles made can be

different sizes.

CHEMICAL Definition: A substance

produced by the chemical process

Characteristics: The components of the soil are

transformed into liquid substances. The plants use the liquid

substances for nutrition. These components change over

time. These components determine the

type of soil.

BIOLOGICAL Definition: The living organisms of a

region.

CharacteristicsVegetation and animals decompose the

organic material. This is usually done by microorganisms

such as bacteria.

ANTHROPIC Definition: Something related to human beings.

Characteristics: Human beings modify their environment in a drastic way. The excess use of fertilizers damage the quality of the soil. The burning of large areas of land damages the quality of

the soil. The improper use of water damages the quality of the soil.
