Tan Le: A headset that reads your

brainwaves

A Power Point Presentation by: Robert DiFrancesco

ThesisTan Le theorized in her speech the idea that

technology is fast approaching a time when we, (society) would no longer need to interact

physically with our technology in order to generate a response, but instead through the act of thought

itself.

Just thinking this sort of question and expecting a response from a

robot may seem rather far-fetched at the moment…

…Mmm, I sure could use a soda right

about now...

…But according to Tan Le, founder and

CEO of Emotiv Lifescience, by using

a specialized headset, the user

can transform their otherwise run-of-the-mill brain waves to those like that of

their favorite X-Men characters-

controlling a virtual environment or the machines around

them.

Tan Le maintained her audiences interest by using an assistant to demonstrate her “Brainwave” machines’

abilities. All while maintaining a calm, soothing tone in her delivery which added

dimension to an otherwise rather technical subject.

DynamismFor me, Tan Le’s Dynamistic appeal was achieved by her ability to create an environment much like

that of a Discovery channel documentary. This was due to the pace and tone of her speech,

and the mix of slides and live examples to communicate its’ rather technical details.

Dynamism

I would rate Tan Le’s Dynamism at a 4. Typically I would suggest more enthusiasm and excitement when speaking, but in Tan Le’s case, that change could do more harm than good. She was honest and pure, too

much excitement could change that.

TED Commandments

Make the complex plain:

Humor was a key for me in keeping the “complex plain”. Tan Le achieved this simply by having what appeared to be

genuine reactions to the situations created on stage by

her assistant while demonstrating her machine.

Thus creating humor and relate ability.

TipThe best tip here is;

“Dream Big”.Of course with something like a

“Brainwave Headset,” how could you not?

Lessons Learned• Be confident

• Believe in yourself and your subject

• Don’t be afraid to make your reality, your audiences

reality.
