Our vision is that Michigan Great Lakes

Vision of MGLVA

Today I will be able to….

Objective: Our Goal Today!

We will go through lessons 5-7 in unit 3

Lesson 5: Drafting the Body of a Report

(Page 43)

The beginning a report is called it’s introduction.

This is a very important part of the report! It also must announce the topic of your report. You want to draw your readers in! Ways to draw readers in with your introduction: 1. Ask a Question: “Have you ever wondered

about…..?”2. Tell an amazing fact! 3. Use sounds and effects: “WHAM! The basketball

slammed into the hoop!” 4. Use a quote you found while researching

Lesson 6: Drafting the introduction of a

report

Take 3 minutes and try to think of a GREAT

way to start your introduction to your own report….

3 kids will get to share on the microphone! 1. 2. 3.

**Quick note, your introduction also briefly tells the readers of your subtopics!***

Let’s try that with our own topics…

Finally, we get to wrap up our writing with an

amazing conclusion! This comes at the end your report:

Let’s check out one…..

Lesson 7: Drafting the Conclusion of a

report

Lesson 7: Drafting the conclusion of a

report

As you begin drafting your report, there are two

things we want you to keep in mind as you write: 1. Good writers do not write in FRAGMENTS:

example: In the field. 2. Good writers do not write RUN ON SENTENCES: Example:

To practice these, we are going to have you work in study island and complete a topic. Let’s try a few from the island…
