A recent gift from the new government to Phuketians and visitors of the island is the project to reorganize Patong Beach. This is an excel-lent campaign as it provides the perfect opportunity to clean up and enhance the beauty of Patong, one of Thailand’s most beautiful and famous beaches which has been enjoyed by tourists from around the world for decades.

The sunny sky and beautiful weather got us thinking about taking a trip to the islands, and one that came to mind was Yao Yai Island located very close to Phuket. Though modernization has spread to most places, the lives of Phang-Nga’s Yao Yai fishermen remain very simple the way it has always been.

Several times daily, there would be boats departing from Jiarawanich and Bangrong Ports in Phuket to Loh Jak and Laem Yai Ports on Yao Yai Island. It is great for day visits and overnight stays, or even long-term plans as accommodations come in different price range to suit every budget.

Another pier located at Laem Yai is where one can find powdery sand. During low tide, it is almost possible to see the entire ocean floor of the bay. And with the mangrove forest located at the north, the air here is particularly fresh.

At the southern-most tip of the island is the location of Laem Haad. Though a little far from any community and getting there can be a challenge, tourists sometimes come here and have fun helping the locals pick clams during low tide

At one time, we thought it was funny to hear people say “I won’t be able to sleep tonight if I didn’t take a drive around the shell roundabout at Saphan Hin”. But after several visits ourselves, we started to agree as we also found the atmosphere to be very pleasant both morning and evening.

“สะพานหน” ในวนน วากนวาปรบปรงและเปลยนแปลง จากเมอครงแรกเรมเดมสรางในราว พ.ศ. 2511 อยางมากมาย ไมวาจะเปนความกวางใหญโออาของสถานท ทศนยภาพ และภมทศน

Saphan Hin, today, has enjoyed several refurbishments since it was first built in 1968. This includes expansion of the structure and landscaping of the surrounding vicinity.

One thing that is kept untouched, though, is the Tin Mining Monument that is original and one of a kind and has been the symbol of Saphan Hin for more than half a century.

Rows of pine trees that line both sides of the street provide cool shade to visitors while the nearby mangrove forest cleanses and freshens the crisp air.

The greenery and the blue ocean water snuggle together in harmony and from here, a wide perspective of Phuket Island can be seen. It’s not surprising that Saphan Hin, also dubbed as “Ocean in the City”, is a popular spot where the locals come with their family for relaxation.

Chumporn Province enjoys an ideal location next to the river and Gulf of Thailand; and it is considered the gateway to the south. This is also where you can find two points which the river meets the ocean at ‘Paknam Chumporn’ and ‘Paknam Langsuan’. Today, we will visit Paknam Langsuan.
