NORWEGIAN FISHERIES MUSEUM STORIES OF OUR COASTAL NATION – THE INTERACTIVE WAY
Part one: 09:30: Guided tour through state of the art exhibitions at the Norwegian Fisheries Museum. Dive into the ocean and see how the sea, climate and fish resources have influenced our coast and settlements through interactive exhibitions. Learn about our fishing traditions through history, from small rowing boats to bigger engine boats using different fishing equipment. Get an insight of Bergen as our largest export harbour, and the connection between our boats and buildings. Part two: 10:30-12:00: Kayaking in the bay of Sandviken. Together with a paddle instructor you will learn paddle technique as well as exploring the shore of Sandviken. Take a closer look at our harbor of veteran boats, old storehouses from the period of the stockfish trade, or the modern residential along the shore. Part three: 12:15 – 13:15 : A taste of the sea- in our lovely restaurant with a view towards the harbor, you will enjoy a delicious local fish soup. LIFE BY THE SEA, The Coastal Museum in Øygarden on the island od Sotra ( 50 minutes from Bergen) provides a unique insight into how people along the Norwegian coast have exploited nature through the ages. Join us for an historical view on fishing, as well as a visit to a modern fish farm. We will take you on a boat ride to discover the fish farm and the aquaculture industry – and afterwards a walk through our exhibition completes the story.

LIFE BY THE SEA – THEN AND NOW THE STORY OF THE MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCES IN NORWAY
Part one: Arrival: Our guide will greet you at the museum door step and show you to the rib boat that will transport you to the fish farm ( 5 minutes transfer). Here you will get a good overview of the whole farm before entering the facilities. The fish farmer will tell you all about the production process from start to finish, and of course you will get to see the fish (45 min). Part two: Exhibition: Upon return to the museum, you will be accompanied by a guide and told fascinating stories about fishing and hunting, oil and gas as well as aquaculture through film and exhibitions (45 min). Part three: Coffee break: End your visit with us on a high note by enjoying newly made traditional pancakes and a cup of coffee or tea in our café. You will also have the opportunity to buy a nice souvenir in our museum shop (25 min). Please be aware if the group is larger than 24 pax, the group can be divided into two groups where one part starts at the museum, while the other starts at the fish farm – and then switch around. Come with us and see how life used to be, and is, along our coast. Our guide will provide you with a unique insight into how people along the Norwegian coast have exploited nature throughout time. You will be told fascinating stories about fishing and hunting, oil and gas as well as aquaculture through films and exhibitions. In the middle of the visit we make time for a coffee break with “lapper”– a traditional pancake, with jam and sour cream. THE COASTAL MUSEUM OF ØYGARDEN DISCOVER OUR WAY OF LIFE BY THE SEA
Part one: Arrival: Upon arrival our guide will meet you at the doorstep of the museum. The visit will start in the auditorium were our guide will give an introduction about the museum as well as a roundtrip. Two films will give a good introduction to the exhibition as well as the guided bus tour to the local area. (45 min.) Part two: Exhibition: Explore the exhibition with a guide and see for yourself what you have seen on film just minutes before (30 min.). Part three: Coffee break: Enjoy newly made traditional pancakes and a cup of coffee or tea in our café, where you also have the opportunity to by a special souvenir in our museum shop. (25 min.) Part four: Roundtrip: Guided roundtrip of our local area. Take a drive through time, visiting both the modern gas processing plant at Kollsnes, as well as the old village of Herdlevær. We will make time for a short photo stop at Herdlevær. (40 min.) From Fjell Fortress, one of Europe’s largest fortresses from World War 2, enjoy the magnificent view over the islands from the west of Bergen. After a tour in the underground tunnels of the fortification, you will continue by bus to the beautiful coastal village of Telavåg. At the North Sea Traffic Museum in Telavåg you will learn how the North Sea was the gateway to freedom during WW2 and hear the touching story of the village .

Part one: Bus from Bergen to Sotra where you will be amazed by spectacular rural landscape. Here, houses give way to farms, the heathlands and the sea. First stop is Fjell Fortress, one of Europe’s largest fortresses from World War 2. Descend 14 meters into the cannon well for a guided tour of the underground tunnels and a range of fascinating exhibitions. Learn about the triple-barrelled cannon "Donner Felix", the wartime occupation and the Russian prisoners of war. The fortress was built as part of the Atlantic Wall in 1942-1945 by the German occupying forces to protect the seaward approach to Bergen. Part two: Protected from the sea, the tiny and idyllic village of Telavåg lies by a picturesque bay. At the North Sea Traffic Museum, that commemorates the resistance of Telavåg during the World War II, you will learn about the particular events that effected the lives of every man, woman and child in the village. The museum offers also exhibitions and a film on the subject.

Part one: Bus from Bergen center westwards to the North Sea takes you from a city and out into the spectacular rural landscape where houses gives way to farms, the heathlands and the sea.
