Welcome to Museums in Norway

We are pleased to present the second edition of Museums in Norway for 2019/2020. The Product Manual presents 200 museums and locations represented by 19 cultural institutions spread all over the country. They offer a wide range of collections and exhibitions that portray an aspect of Norway’s unique geography, history, art, architecture, music, cuisine and economy.

Regardless whether the focus is coastal or mountain, art or music, suitable for adults or children, Norway’s museums offer an exciting range of events held throughout the year that celebrate Norwegian folklore, music and dance; the achievements of our Viking forefathers; the adventures of our explorers, or the triumphs of modern engineering.

Our museums offer family-friendly activities, guided tours, and stage special events throughout the year that enable our guests, (be they travelling as groups or individuals), to meet local residents and try local cuisine.

Many museums, as indicated in the Product Manual, can also offer meeting facilities and arrange customised tour-experiences. So please, never hesitate to ask!

With so many locations we have chosen to present some key information about each museum while referring to their webpages for further details and updated information on prices and opening hours etc.

The printed version is based on information compiled in March 2019 and subject to change. An updated version is available for downloading at www.museumsinnorway.no

We trust this Product Manual will persuade you to include Norway’ top museums in your tours and provide useful information that supports your guests visit to Norway.

NORWEGIAN JEKT TRADE MUSEUM. New! Bodø’s new attraction opens 22. June 2019. Here we’ll take you onboard for a journey into history you will never forget. The history of trade in circumpolar Norway is extraordinary. The open square sailed ship called Jekt sailed the Norwegian coast from medieval times to modern day. Onboard it carried stock fish and cod-liver oil. The coastal communities in northern Norway depended on this trade. A uniquely preserved jekt is the center of the exhibition. In the museum café you can enjoy the view, while having a snack or taste some stockfish cuisine. The Norwegian Jekt trade museum is situated just a few minutes from Bodøs hotels and airport.
