IntroductionPrivrednabankaZagrebhascontinuouslybeenatthepeakoftheCroatianbankingsectoreversinceitwasfounded.Today,asamemberofamajorinternationalbankinggroup-IntesaSanpaolo,weareadynamicandmodernEuropeanbank,whichfollowsthedemandsofthemarketandourclients.Ourjointstrategyofgrowthanddevelo-pmentaimsatcreatingsolidandsusta-inablevaluesinaneconomic,financial,socialandecologicalsensefoundedontheconfidenceofallourpartners.Presentedbelowaresomeofouractivitiesin2010.

1. Education and professional developmentWehavecontinuedthestrategicdeve-lopmentprojectPBZBusinessSchool.In2010anewgenerationcounting124employeesstartedtheireducationintwoprograms:Generalmanagementprogram&Operational/Salesmanagementprogram.Atthesametime,inNovember2010,the2ndgenerationwithatotalnumberof144employeescompletedtheir3yeareducati-onprogramwiththePBZBusinessschool.In2010wehavecontinuedwithspecificAMLtrainingprogramsfocussingonFrontofficeemployees.Besidesclassicaltrainingintheclassroom,differentchannelsforraisingawareness&knowledgerelatedtoAMLlegislationwereintroduced.Intraneteducationsolutions,newsletter,Help-Desk,etc.,arereachableforalltheBanks’employees.Astheresultofthesesactivi-ties1225outof1783employeespastthee-learningexamandgotAMLcertificateduring2010.Aspecificprogramsubjecttoclientorien-tation(commercialskillsworkshops)hasbeencompletedinDecember2010for59relationshipmanagers(SMEgroup).Inad-dition40SMEemployeeswereinvolvedinaspecialworkshop“DebtRestructuring”.

thedevelopmentoflocalcommunitiesbyactivelyinvolvingourRegionalbranchoffi-cesinsponsorshipanddonationprogramsinvolvinginstitutions,associationsandindividualsinCroatia.PBZendeavourstosupportandinitiatemanyculturaleventsandhappenings,andcontributetotheimprovementoftheoverallqualityoflifeofourcommunity.

thousandJoys”.Theaimofthecampa-ignistoraisemoneytohelp1000lowincomefamiliesinCroatia.Fortheeightconsecutiveyear,PBZhasbeeninvolvedinthemajorCaritasfundraisingcampa-ign“ForOnethousandJoys”.Theaimofthecampaignwastoraisemoneytohelp1000lowincomefamiliesinCroatiafromfundswhichbusinessessetasideforChristmasandNewYear’sparties.Aswellasdonatingmoney,PBZsupportsthecampaignbybuyingCaritas’Chris-tmascards.

Thisyear,undertheslogan“Thefamilyistheessence”,theaimistosupportfamiliesaffectedbythelossofoneormoremembers.

tariandeminingofamine-suspectedarealocatedinthecentralpartofVukovar-SyrmiaCounty,inStariJankov-ciMunicipality,southofSlakovci.AsaconsequenceoftheHomelandWar,inthepresent-dayCroatiathereare830km2ofmine-suspectedareaswhichspreadacross12countiescontaminatedwithminesandunexplodedordnances.MinesinCroatiacauseawholerangeofeconomic,environmentalandsafetyissues,giventhatlargeagriculturalareas,forestsandpartsofriverbanksremaininaccessiblebecauseofminefieldsorsuspicionofminepresence.Bytakingpartinfinancinghumanitariandemining,wewishtogiveadditionalcontributiontothequalityandsafetyoflifeinCroatiawithnomines.

Plentyofdonationsareintendedforawar-dingscholarshipsforpupilsandstudents:•Thedonationtothe(NationalFoundati-

onforSupportingthePupilandStudentStandardofLiving):TheFoundationisawardingthenationalgrantstotalen-tedstudentsandgivingsupporttothespecialprogramswhichcontributetoen-hanicgthelivingandculturalstandardsofstudents.ThekeyroleisinfinancingthebestandmostsuccessfulCroatianstudents,butitwillalsosupportthestudentswhoseuniversitydegreewillenablethemtoapplyforhigh-deman-dingjobsandthusprovidefreshimpetustotheeconomicgrowthoftheRepublicofCroatia.

•“Stepintolife”-providesscholarshipsforyoungpeoplewhoaftercomingofageleaveorphanagesandfosterfamilieswantingtoobtainacollegedegree.Withthesedonations,PBZprovidesfourscholarshipsawardedforfiveyears.

•Withintheproject“SolidarityforVukovar”wegranteddonationsto20studentsfromthecityofVukovar,10pupilsandstudentswhoareonlowincomeintheareaofKrapinsko-Zagor-skaCounty,andwithintheprojectof“ITcareer-opportunitiesfordisabled

persons”-onestudentwillbesupportedduringathree-yearstudy.

•Wewouldalsoliketoemphasizedonati-onsawardedintheareaof“restorationofculturalmonumentsandheritage:DonationsfortherestorationofSt.Rochus(sv.Rok)parishchurchwhichisazerocategorymonumentofculturalheritage,adonationtoasanctuaryOurHolyMotherofTrsatfortherestorationofalibraryofhistoricalvalueandtheFranciscantreasury.

•Wewouldliketopointoutasignificantsponsorshipagreement-tosupportoneofthemostfamousculturaleventsinCroatia-Sinjska alka.TheIron-ringofSinjisaknight’stournamentthat

hasbeengoingonforalmost3centu-ries,usingthesameoldcustoms.Ithasrunwithoutpausesince1715.ThisisauniquespectacletoberecognizedbyUnescoasaWorldheritage.

•Thevariousculturalprogramsandinsti-tutionsthatPBZhassupportedincludesponsorshipoftheCroatianNationalTheatreinZagreb,TheModernGallery,CroatianNationalTheatreinVaraždin,traditionalehnologicalmanifestation“Rapskafjera”andmanyothers.

5. ProjectsPBZformanyyearshassupportedaninternati-onalexchangeprogramofstudentsagedfrom15to18yearsorgani-

zedbytheAFS(AssociatedFieldService).Thisreputableinternational,voluntaryandnon-profitorganizationdealswiththeexchangeofstudents.PBZsponsorstwoscholarshipsforaone-yearprogramabroad.

InNovember2009,wehavelaunchedajointhumanitariancampaignbythePontifi-calMissionSocietiesandPBZnamed-Per-formamiracle-andsaveachild’slife!ThegoalofthiscampaignistocollectfundstohelpchildrenintheDemocraticRepublicofCongo,inparticularfor:theCenterforMalnourishedChildrenattheGeneralHospitalinIfendulaLuhwinyaandcentersfortherapeuticnutritionwhichoperatewi-thinCaritasoftheArchdioceseofBukavuinDRCongo.ThestartofthiscampaignwasmarkedbyaninitialdonationbyPBZof100,000kunastohelpchildreninDRCongoandtheBankwillcontinuetocollectfundsthroughitsbranchnetwork.Inthe50largestbranchesofPBZ,inaspot

Bydonatingitsemployees’timeforwork-shoppreparation,PrivrednaBankaZagreb(PBZ),asamemberofCroatianBankingAssociation(HUB),participatedactivelyinaworkinggrouptogetherwithmaleandfemalecolleaguesfrom11otherCroatianbanksandprojectmembersduring2010.Consequentlytoallaforementioned,pre-parationandimplementationofworkshopsforentrepreneurs,asawayofaidingthemwiththefinancialliteracy,isanadditionalactivityinPrivrednaBankaZagreb’sse-gmentofsociallyresponsiblebanking.

6. Environmental impactInPBZwehavebeencontinuouslymonito-ringenergyconsumption,andbylaunchingdifferentactivitieswearetryingtoreduceenergyconsumptionandraisetheconscio-usnessofemployeesabouttheimportanceofprotectingtheenvironment(shuttingdownPCsafterwork,switchingoffairconditionersandheatingonweekends,separatingwastepaperfromotherwasteforrecyclingpurposes).Alsointhelastthreeyears,wehaveintro-ducedanobligationtocopydocumentsonbothpages,whichresultedinthesignifi-cantreductioninpaperconsumptionandattheendofthelastyearwestartedusingreusableenvelopes.

“Entrepreneurs and Banks - Toget-her Towards Success”,isthenameofworkshopsforentrepreneurs,amutualprojectofCroatianNationalAssociationofEntrepreneurs(HUP)andCroatianBankingAssociations(HUB)whoseaimistofacilita-tethecommunicationaswellastoeducateandinformparticipantsaboutestablishingbusinesscontactwithbank,especiallycreditfinancing.Workshopsareintendedforemployeesandownersofsmallandmediumsizeenterprises(SME),thosewithscarceexperienceorwithnoexperienceatallindoingbusinesswithbanks,aswellasforentrepreneurs-beginners.
