Another Successful Jumble Sale
We run our Jumble Sale each year at the Clifton Community Centre, usually at the end ofFebruary. This year we were a little later to avoid clashing with another sale.Having spent several weeks collecting and storing our merchandise we have a couple of hourson the day to transport and lay it all out ready for the doors to open at 1:30
Usually there is a queue at the door and for the next hour things get really hectic. Then the hallgoes quiet and we look around at the mountain of remaining stock.Time to start again…The hall has to be cleared, the remaining stock has to be moved-on and the day’s proceeds haveto be counted.Thank you to everyone who helped us or shopped with us…………………….. We shall be back!

Another Good Day at Wicksteed ParkEarly June is “Wicksteed Time” for Biggleswade Sandy Lions. For over30 years, we’ve organised an “Away-Day” at Wicksteed Park for localyoungsters and carers. It’s one of our longest running CommunityService Projects. Plans are laid down at the beginning of the year, invitations are sent out, phone calls made, a coach is booked, suppliesare arranged from Morrisons and Aldi; and last but not least, goodweather is ordered.
This year, on the 4th June, Sandy Children’s Centre & Home-Startfilled our coach with 10 families and a group from Ivel Valley Schooljoined us for the day.
Once everyone had arrived at Wicksteed, we supplied the childrenwith wristbands for the rides and set them free to explore the Park;with the understanding that they would return in time for lunch.
We like to think of it as a day out in the sun; but a dry overcast dayis better than rain; so everyone was happy.
Generally we manage to catch some pictures of everyone atlunchtime, this year was no exception.
We believe that everyonehad a good time, therewere some very sleepychildren on the coachgoing home.
We'd like to give a bigthank you to all thevolunteers who helpedmake this all possible.

Fêtes & Carnivals 1Ickwell - Monday 2nd MayThe weather forecast wasn’t brilliant, but hey, this is Britain; lets lookat the sky and judge it from there. We weren’t the only ones to beoptimistic on that Monday morning everyone was there early to makethe most of the fine weather.
We had golf, skittles, floating ducks, books, jigsaws, quiz sheets and aselect range of bric-a-brac plus a good supply of customers; but theyweren’t sufficient to raise the roof. We had to wait until 2pm for a freakwind to do that! Both gazebos took off in tandem, bounced off the roofof Lion Ivor’s car and landed in the road. Luckily no-one was injured.
Then to cap it all, with no roof over our heads, it rained!
The weather forecast had been right after all…. It wasn’t brilliant.
Sandy Carnival - Saturday 18th June - Chicken in the basket day
The weather looked as though it wouldn’t rain and it didn’t! Somewherethe sun was shining, we didn’t see it! However, Sandy Carnival wasup and running and people where walking around with smiles on theirfaces because it was a really good afternoon. One young lady was walking around with a big grin on her face becauseshe had landed her chicken in our basket and won £5. Several otherambitious fellows got extremely close to joining that that elite “Welanded it in the Basket” society, perhaps next time.
We had several distinguished visitors have a go too; they “also ran”
Meppershall Summer Fair - Saturday 25th June
It was an afternoon of sunshine, showers and lots of people attending. There was a Magnificent aerobatic display. We sold all the Tombolamugs and tins, our golf was stopped for rain (greenkeeper’s orders)and the skittles got a little waterlogged at times. Our quiz sheetscontinued to be popular and we look forward to receiving completedones back to claim the £100 prize money.

Fêtes & Carnivals 2Langford Show - Saturday 2nd July
The day started bright & sunny & we were all set up by 10.30, readyfor the start at about 12.30. It turned out that we were very glad tohave had the time to relax before the off as once the public arrived, after the finish of the raft race, we had non stop custom right upuntil the end at 4pm! Our Chicken in a Basket game was a greatattraction, & many told me that "everybody at the event was talkingabout it!" We had two lucky winners (see photos) who were boththrilled & astonished. Our logo quiz was also a real hit on the day, with all we had with us being sold.
We had been extremely lucky with the weather, only one briefshower, despite threatening black clouds which didn't drop their loaduntil after all our gear had been safely put back into storage.
Our grateful thanks to all those who supported us on the day.
Letchworth Fun Day - Saturday 23rd July
The day was warm, very warm, in fact too hot really; 29°C. Still theSchool holidays have started and that usually means a downturn inthe weather, so no complaints from the Lions! We were there withour lucky dip, quiz sheets, Mug/tin Tombola, books, jigsaws andbric-a-brac; in fact we were the very reincarnation of Woolworthsand were kept busy all day long.
Thank you!
Arlesey Fun Day - Saturday 3rd September
It seems to me that Arlesey move their Fun Day around the Calendarsearching for better weather each year. Next year, please don’t askthe water diviner’s advice!
However we may have got wet; well, soaked actually; but that didn’tseem to deter the punters; sorry, our customers. We ran out ofmugs at the Mug Tombola, dips in the Lucky Dip and were kept busyon the skittles and selling Quiz sheets. Thank you to everyone whojoined us out there in the rain…. You made our afternoon worthwhile.
Upper Caldecote Village Show - Sunday 4th September
What can I say, the wind kept blowing the chickens into the basket! We had four winners and a dry Gazebo by the end of the afternoon, thanks to the wind. The lucky Dip and our Quiz Sheets did brisktrade throughout the afternoon. By the end of the afternoon whenour dry Gazebo was finally packed away we could reflect on the endof our Summer Fête season with relief and a tremendous sense ofachievement.
Thank you to all our Lions Members and friends who helpedthroughout the summer, thank you also to all those smiling facesthat came along to blast a chicken into oblivion; win a mug; playskittles or golf; buy our bric-a-brac, books and jigsaws. We lovedmeeting you and look forward to seeing you again next year

Party Time at the DYCEach year the Lions Clubs of District 105A gathertogether to give a party to local disadvantaged anddisabled young people. Past District Governor Lion VijayArora’s team gather in the morning and convert AllumHall at Elstree into a veritable Party Palace.
At 1:30pm the party starts with some 500 youngsters, carers and Lions making merry.
Biggleswade Sandy Lions booked 3 tables for “ourpeople”. I think the pictures tell the story, as does thefollowing email that we received that evening.
“Thank you so much for an adorable day today in Elstree. The triplets really enjoyed it, in spite of tantrums, balloons etc!! Gemma, Harvey, Lacieand Jack loved it too.It was a beautiful experience. The room was warm and welcoming, the decorations werestunning.I had no idea where or what we were going to, but this was much more than I hadexpected.Molly especially has requested a return visit!!!Thank you so much to everybody who made the day so special.
