A recap of Day Two

All over Europe,

people are talking

about OpenPOWER!

The shotgun release of so many

efforts, argue IBM and

OpenPOWER, demonstrates

the hungry appetite for and

rapid adoption of Power-based

technology in Europe.

And how being in an open

community helps drive

success.

Open gives everyone a

seat at the table, and

every seat is a little bit

different.

Major Hayden

Principle Architect

Rackspace

Collaboration grew for building the

framework, with significant contributions

from IBM, Xilinx, Rackspace, Eiditicom,

Reconfigure.io, Alpha-Data, and

Nallatech. Each company brought unique

skills and perspectives to the effort.

Bruce Wile

CAPI Chief Engineer and Distinguished Engineer

IBM

The way open makes a difference

in my business is that it speeds up

the rate of innovation. At

OpenPOWER Summit in April, I

got together with several other

members, and in six months we

came away with CAPI SNAP.

Rob Taylor

CEO

Reconfigure.io

This open collaboration is

leading to real

performance gains for our

members

When compared to a traditional

system, we were able to maintain

the same performance using 4x less

memory with CAPI attached Flash.

Tom Hubregtsen

Research Staff Member

IBM

And is helping to

create new

technologies that

previously

weren’t possible

without

OpenPOWER’s

collaborative

model

New advanced memory technologies will

have a disruptive impact on the industry.

This demonstration of MRAM in a POWER8

server running real applications is a great

example of what OpenPOWER is all about –

creating opportunities for industry partners

to innovate and enabling choice in the

market.Steve Fields

IBM Fellow and Chief Engineer of POWER systems

These new

technologies are being

used by members to

address both current

workloads, as well as

workloads of the future

Deep learning is not

the future, deep

learning at scale is the

future.

Samuel Cozannet

Strategic Program Manager

Canonical

JURON clearly demonstrates the potential of a

technology ecosystem settled around a

processor architecture with interfaces that

facilitate efficient integration of various

devices for efficient processing, moving and

storing of data. In other words, it demonstrates

the collaborative potential of OpenPOWER.

Dr. Dirk Pleiter

Research Group Leader

Jülich Supercomputing Centre

But most importantly…

We’re doing it differently,

and in ways we’ve never

done before, and that’s my

definition of fun.

Jeff Scheel

Distinguished Engineer

IBM Linux Technology Center
