SIR FREDERIC OSBORN SCHOOL
YEAR 8 & 9 Residential Trip
to
Friday 20th - Sunday 22ND September 2013
On y va!!
Dear Parent/Carer Please find enclosed final details for the Year 8 and 9 residential trip to Chateau d’Ebblinghem near St Omer in Northern France. Here you will find all the necessary information from how much spending money, to how many pairs of socks to bring. You can be assured your child will have an amazing experience not only in deepening their knowledge of the French language and appreciating French culture, but also in developing independence and strengthening relationships and self awareness.
Mrs G Matheson
Teacher of MFL
Le Château d'Ebblinghem lieu dit kastel velt
1934 route nationale 59173 Ebblinghem
.
Château d’Ebblinghem is NST’s very own 19th century French country house set in a rural location 8km east of St Omer in Northern France, and just 45 minutes from the Channel ports.
Should there be any need to contact your child during the weekend, Mrs Matheson will have a school mobile which is:
07929890913
There are three separate buildings at the Château, each designed to accommodate one group. We will have sole occupancy of our building; Le Manoir; including own dining room and meeting room. All rooms in all three buildings are bright, modern and clean, and feature a private shower, toilet and washbasin.
There will be 4 members of staff supervising the trip. These are: Mrs Matheson, Ms Lewin, Mr Koupis and Mrs Viccars.
The secluded location of NST’s Château d’Ebblinghem, and the fact that each group has its own accommodation block, will no doubt be a major reassurance to teachers and parents. In addition, a member of their staff is always on duty overnight.
Meals at the Château provide a nutritious balanced diet which is carefully planned to restore the energy expended during the day’s activities. Breakfast and evening meals are provided on-site and packed lunches are supplied daily. Meal times are flexible to suit our itinerary, and most special dietary requirements are easily managed.
Students should come to school at 7.30am in comfortable clothing that they will be travelling in.
Please ensure that any medication and instructions are put into a sealed bag clearly marked with your child’s name and handed to Mrs Viccars. Please also give details of any dietary requirements.
Journey times are as follows:
Friday 20th September depart SFO 8.00am - check in at Eurotunnel Terminal Folkstone at 11.20am. Arrival at Le Chateau at approximately 5.30pm after 1st excursion on route.
Sunday 22nd September depart Le Chateau 10.30am for final excursion before check in at Calais Eurotunnel terminal 2.36pm - estimated arrival at SFO 6.20pm.
Before
Pack light. Limit yourself to one large bag/suitcase. Pack a list of items in your bag to tick off when repacking.
Make sure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
Journey
If you suffer from travel sickness take medication before we leave school and remember to save some for the return journey!
Have a packed lunch & drink available on the coach. However sweets and fizzy drinks are to be avoided.
Bring books, games or cards to keep boredom away. Remember any valuables are bought at your own risk and should be kept at home where possible. Games Consoles are not permitted.
During
Bring a camera as you will have plenty of opportunities to take pictures.
Listen and follow all safety notices on the trip whether it is in relation to accommodation or activities.
As well as the usual items required
here are a list of essentials
Toiletries etc
Towels x 2
Night clothes
Underwear x 3
Socks x 3
Clothes and comfortable footwear for during the day and
evening
Waterproof clothing / Sun cream
Water bottle for refreshment during the day
Large plastic bags for dirty clothes
Pocket Money - There is a souvenir shop at the Chateau
together with a games room with pool table / arcade games
etc which students would need Euros to play. Students will
also spend time in Boulogne and may wish to purchase
small gifts.
We recommend that any valuable items i.e. mobile phones, game boys
and cameras are not bought to the centre (Maybe use disposable
cameras) as it may cause distress if they are misplaced and the
chateau’s insurance does not cover for this loss. Please also be aware
that the school will not be held liable for any loss or damage and it
will be solely the student’s responsibility.
Students from Sir Frederic Osborn School who have been on residential
trips in the past have been praised for their behaviour and we would wish
this to continue so please heed the following:
Please respect and observe the Chateau’s rules.
Please treat the Chateau with respect.
Please respect other visitors to the Chateau.
The unsupervised use of activity areas is strictly forbidden
During the visit the NST staff are in charge and students
should follow their instructions at all times
The accommodation should be kept clean and tidy. Any
damage should be reported to a member of staff.
Noise should be kept to a minimum at all times so as not to
disturb other guests.
Should any student behave inappropriately during the
weekend this will be dealt with upon their return to school and
they will be banned from future school trips.
As mentioned previously we recommend that students DO NOT
bring their mobile phones to the Chateau as this can not only
cause home sickness for the student but also stress and worry for
the parent/carer if they make or receive many calls.
Should there be an emergency which requires you to contact your
child, please contact Mrs Matheson on the school Trip mobile:
