LaudeturJesusChristus!GelobtseiJesusChristus!PraisedbeJesusChrist! TodayweenterintotheAdventSeason,thebegin-ningoftheChurch’sLiturgicalYear.AsweenterintoAdvent,aperiodofexpectantwaitingforthecomingoftheSavior,

itisastrongtemptationforustocelebrateChristmasbeforeChristmas.Sooften,whenChristmasfinallydoesarriveweareleftwithanemptyfeeling,becausewehadbeencelebratingChristmasforweeksprior.Wethentendtoignoreandmisstheimportanceofthefeastforwhichwehadbeenpreparing.Asweenterintothisperiod,maywedoourbesttoleaveandpre-pareaplacewithinourheartsforthecomingoftheKing.Christnolongerwalksthisearthasheoncedid,buthisIncarnationalpresenceremainshereamongusintheHolyEucharist.ThereceptionofHolyCommu-nionisacallforustocontinuetheworkofChristinthisworld.MaythisAdventSeasonserveasaperiodofrestandreflectiononhowwearetocontinuebeingthehandsandthefeetofChristinthisworldtrans-formedbyHisIncarnation. Onechangetopleasenote,theAdventwreathhasbeenre-donethisyear.Wearereturningtothe

moretraditionalGermantraditionofusingredcandles,ratherthanthepurple/rosecandles.IfyoulookupimagesofPopeBenedictandhisAdventwreath,youwilldiscoverthispractice.TheredservestoremindusofthepurposeforChrist’scomingintotheworld,theredemptionofmankindthroughthecross.ThusservingasawaytoconnectChristmasandEaster.
