Neighborhood Watch Committee Co-ChairDaleMcCallandhiswife,Noelene,movedfromWinter

Springs,FloridatoLakesofSavannahinJuly2007.TheychosetomakeLakesofSavannahtheirhomebecauseofthefamilyatmosphere.Dalesaid,“Welikethewalkingpaths,goodvalueinhouseprocess,anditwasinagoodlocation for my job.” Dale is a marketing managerforan insurancecompanythathasaregionaloffice inGalveston.

Dale’sfavoritethingaboutlivinginLakesofSavannahishisneighbors.Hesaid,“Wefeeltheneighborsinourareaarethebestneighborswehaveeverhad.”

Dale volunteered for the Neighborhood WatchCommitteebecausehefeelsitisneededinthecommunity.Heservedonthecommitteepriortovolunteeringtobethecommitteeco-chairinJanuary.

Dale explained, “the number one priority ofthe Neighborhood Watch Committee is to get allneighborhoodsinvolvedinwatchingoutforeachother;getting to know your neighbors and helping create asafeneighborhood.”Dalesaidthemostimportantthingresidentscandotokeeptheneighborhoodsafeapreventcrimeisgettingtoknowyourneighbors.Heencouragesresidentstoknowwhatkindofcarsyourneighborsdrive,shareemailaddressesandcellphoneandhomephonenumbers.Dalesaid,“Ourneighborhoodhasaspreadsheetthatmostoftheneighborsinformationison,sowecancalleachotherifweseeanythingsuspiciousgoingon.”

Dale said his biggest challenge as co-chair of theNeighborhoodWatchCommitteeisgettingresidentstoattendthecommitteemeetings.Heinvitesallresidentstoattend.TheNeighborhoodWatchCommitteemeetingsare the firstTuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at theclubhouse.

Whatyou’velikelynoticedaroundthistimeisaherdofchildrengoinghomefromSavannahLakesElementarySchool.Somewell-mannered,takingspecialcaretowatchfortraffic,butnotalltakethecaretheyshould.Someofthesecutekiddiesaretoooccupiedwithchattingandjumpingtheirprizedbikestopaytheattentionnecessarytoavoidinjury…orworse.

As residents of Lakes of Savannah, we should take pride inwatching out for our neighbors’ little ones and SLOW DOWNwhendriving.Withschoolnowoutforthesummer,thechildrenwillbeoutplayingatalltimesoftheday.Pleasefocusondrivingandwatchforthekids.

Inthesamebreathe,Iurgeparentstopleasetakethesamecareinpreparingyourchildforthejourneytoandfromschoolasyoudoindressing,feedingandhelpingwithhomework.Thisneedstobeaconversationthatishadoftenbetweenparentsandchildren.Ifyourchildridesabicycle,pleaseremindhimorhertowatchforcars.Pleasealwaysknowwhereyourchildisandbesurethatheorsheisbehavingrespectfullyandsafely.

community.Pleaseremindyourchildtowatchforthemandwhattodoiftheycomeacrossone.

Strangers–Remindthemtokeeptheirdistanceandthateveryone’sintentionsarenotgood.

Alligators–Makesureyourchildknowswhattolookforandwhatpartofthecommunitytosteerawayfrom.
