BRINGING OUT THE WINNER IN YOUR CHILD

The Pilgrimageof Parenting

This journey called parenting is in some ways so very short and thenagain in the midst of raising our children it goes sooo slow. How aboutthose sleep deprived days and nights with a newborn or sick child? These times make our hearts and minds play tricks on us. We can losesight of the ultimate goal of raising our children into Godly youngadults because we are just trying to survive.

I recently saw a quote from author William Faulkner that really madesense:

"A monument only says, 'I got this far,' while a footprint says, 'This iswhere I was when I moved again.' "

As parents we can choose to be tourists. Simply watching and waitingto witness the next step or stage in our children's lives. We can be amonument. Stuck right where it is planted and influence very few. Orwe can be on a journey. God has given us the privilege of taking ourchildren and our mates on a pilgrimage of parenting.

Just think — we get to choosewhat we want to be. God hasgiven you and me the choice tobe a monument, a wanderingtourist or (as He intended us tobe) a Pilgrim on an ordainedquest to make a real differencein this world- starting with ourown families. Let’s choose toexperience every day as happyand fruitful people. Let’s liveeach day as consistently as pos-sible and strive to fulfill God'spurpose for us - that of a pil-grim. Remember, what wepractice every day is what wewill become.

Your Choices Can Change Your Community.Make the choice to shop local and support locally-owned businesses. You can help make a differencein your community! Research shows that if you shift a portion of your spending from national chainsand the Internet to independent locally-owned and operated businesses, you can have a dramatic

effect on your local economy. That’s because a significantly greater portion of the money you spend with local businesses stays inyour community. This means more money for roads, schools, services and jobs. A small change in

the way you shop can have a big impact on your community.

So take the pledge and choose to shop local!• Visit a locally owned and operated business once per week.

• Seek out a local business you’ve never been to, see what they have to offer!• Buy a book at a corner book store.

• Eat lunch at that sandwich shop down the street.• Purchase a birthday present at a local gift shop.

• Buy ingredients for your next holiday dinner at a Farmer’s market.• Work off that holiday dinner and join a local gym.

• Buy a toy at that local toy store downtown.• Get your string trimmer from an outdoor power equipment dealer who can service and maintain

the products they sell.• Get your prescription filled at a local pharmacy.

• Visit a local nursery for your lawn and garden needs.

BAD COMPANY"Do not be misled. Bad company corrupts goodcharacter." (I Corinthians 15:33)

They influence your speech, dress, and manner-isms. They are your constant mirrors. They are inyour address book and in your phone 's speeddial. They have a firm grip on your heartstrings, and oftentimes they are the difference betweensuccess and failure in the Christian life. Goodones can nudge you to victory. Bad ones can dragyou to defeat. What are they? You guessedit...friends!

The bottom line is that the type of friends whoform your inner circle will most likely determinehow faithfully you serve Christ, and whether ornot you make a spiritual difference on your cam-pus. When Paul wrote today's verse: "Do not bemisled. Bad company corrupts good character " -he was addressing a friendship situation.

The Christians at Corinth had friends who basi-cally denied the resurrection. In other words, their main goal in life was to try and find happi-ness through partying, because there would beno judgment day. So these believers had friendswho were pulling them in the wrong direction. My guess is that those Christians thought thatthey were strong enough in their faith to resistthe bad influences of their friends.Paul says- I don't think so...

So what about it? Are you being misled? Do youhave as your best friends those who have Jesus astheir best friend? If not, it's just a matter of timebefore your character is corrupted with the virusof spiritual compromise.

I can't help but think of a friend from HighSchool. Let's call him "Ronnie". We went toschool together all through Jr. High and HighSchool. In fact, Ronnie helped lead me to a grow-ing trust in Jesus. We held each other accountableand witnessed to our unsaved friends. But ashigh school continued, Ronnie began to makeother alliances. More and more of his friendswere less and less concerned about Christ. Prettysoon his closest friends were absolutely uncon-cerned about the Lord, and positively concernedabout their own happiness before anything. Bitby bit Ronnie got his eyes off the bull's eye ofserving Christ.

There came a time when I had to choose betweenmy friendship with Ronnie, and my allegiance toChrist- and guess what? Rock breaks scissors:Jesus wins. Sound judgmental? Perhaps, but thejudgment was more on myself than on Ronnie, because I knew that eventually I would shipwreckmy faith if I stayed on course with that friend-ship. Sound difficult? Absolutely, breaking off aclose friendship is like having surgery. Yet if youdon't go through with that spiritual operation, you could lose your spiritual life.

By the grace of God, when I graduated my eyeswere set on entering the ministry, and today Iserve the King of Kings. By the time Ronniegraduated he was just like his closestfriends...spiritually weak and disinterested. Tothis day, years later, Ronnie is totally uncon-cerned about following Jesus, and completelymiserable.

In the words of one pastor: "If you drop a whiteglove in the mud...the mud doesn't become'glovey'...the glove becomes muddy." This is espe-cially true in relationships. Christian teens thatcontinue with godless friendships will themselvesbecome godless. Maybe you need to make somedecisions right now about your inner circle offriends. Don't put it off! The whole direction ofyour spiritual life hangs in the balance...

The Language of RosesMother’s Day brings to mind love, sacrifice, goodness, devotion and many other words ofendearment for mothers. As a child, I alwayswent to the backyard garden and cut a fresh rosefor my mother to wear on Mother’s Day. It justseemed the fitting thing to do and Mama wasalways appreciative.

Little did I know then about the “language ofroses” and all the meanings that could be con-veyed by a single rose or a specific variety ofthese special flowers. Roses often standout inwedding bouquets, at beauty pageants, in MayDay celebrations, bouquets for royalty and posiesof the backyard garden variety presented tomothers on their special holiday. This Mother’s

Day why not plan a rose bouquet for your momor grandmother.

Add a little note expressing your gratitude andlove what she does in your life and include themeaning of the particular roses chosen from thislist from the book, The Language of Flowers byMichael Joseph:A flower called Rose=love, Bridal Rose=happylove, Burgundy Rose=unconscious beauty,Cabbage Rose=ambassador of love, DamaskRose=brilliant complexion, Musk RoseClusters=charming, Single Rose=simplicity,White Rose=worthy of you, White and Red Rosetogether=unity, Red Rosebud=pure and lovely,White Rosebud=symbol of girlhood, and the listgoes on, but this gives you an idea of how

meaningful roses are in the lives of “girls of allages”. Happy Mother’s Day 2013 to all moms andgrandmothers; enjoy your special day!

The Episcopal Day SchoolThe Episcopal Day School hasserved the Gadsden community formore than 60 years. Established in1952, today Episcopal is a vibrantcommunity of learners from 12months through the 12th grade.

Episcopal has a 100 percent graduation rate, and allof our graduates, beginning with our first class in2009, have matriculated to college.

A firm foundation is supplied to our students viaour mission to teach students to pray, to study, andto serve God.Weekly chapel binds us in communityin the midst of all our diversity, activity and variedpursuits. The Episcopal Day School is a place ofwonderful differences which makes it an exceptionalenvironment for learning.

An early appreciation for the arts begins withpreschoolers and continues through high schoolwith schedules built to insure that the visual andperforming arts are entwined and encouragedthroughout a student’s educational career. Emphasison foreign language development, stressed in pre-school through high school exposes students toother cultures. Along with foreign language, musiceducation opens additional pathways in youngbrains and enhances mathematical skills.

With an equal emphasis on Science, Technology,Engineering andMathematics, (STEM) Episcopalprepares students with college preparatory classesincluding honors, AP, and dual enrollment. Since2007 our participation in BEST (Boosting,Engineering, Science, and Technology) Robotics hasprovided our middle and high school students withinvaluable insight into the real world of productresearch, design, marketing and sales.

Service learning is encouraged through our associa-tion with the Kiwanis family of clubs. Episcopal isthe only school in Alabama to house K-Kids,Builders Club, and Key Club organizations.

Episcopal has two goals in mind – to help each childto find his or her own gifts and to develop them tothe fullest so that they may be happy, fruitful adultscontributing to their communities.

Coosa Christian SchoolWeAreMore ThanConquerorsThis has been an outstanding yearin the lives of our 2013 seniors andCoosa Christian High School. Inthe fall, the 17 seniors decided theywere going to make their mark.

They set a class goal of $1 million in scholarshipsand set out to make it happen.

This group of students has grown up together, mosthaving been at Coosa since elementary school. Eventhough there is great competition between these stu-dents for top honors, there is a family atmosphereamong the group and they work very well together. They have been grooming their resumes, workingon their GPAs, and hammering away at their ACTssince 9th grade. So it was no wonder that this groupfar exceeded their goal. Instead of the $1 million dol-lars in scholarships that they sought, they received$1,712,826! That is an average of more than$100,000 per person!

When they decided to set a goal and raise the barhigh, we encouraged them to think big and put theirapplications out there everywhere, give themselvesoptions. Most of their first semester was spent send-ing transcripts and doing paperwork. Secondsemester started off with prayer and waiting andwatching the mailbox. Then aroundMarch, it allstarted coming in. It was so exciting to see how Godwas blessing their years of diligence and hard work. Our whole school got in on the excitement and wehope it has sparked others to excellence. We haveyounger classes now saying they are going to outdothe 2013 class when it’s their own senior year!

What a great God we serve! We give him all theglory for these bountiful blessings. For all the par-ents of our seniors who have sacrificed to send theirchildren to a private Christian school, God has mul-tiplied that sacrifice tenfold. And for those 17 hardworking students, God has proven himself faithfulonce again. For He says in Colossians 3:23-24,“Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, asthough you are working for the Lord rather than forpeople. Remember that the Lord will give you aninheritance as your reward, and the Master you areserving is Christ.” Seniors, you have done as Hecommanded, and He is doing as He has promised.

4 Ways to Prepare Your Child for a Great Camp ExperienceAnticipation: Help your child get excited about camp a few weeks before the session. If you are excited about this opportunity for your child, then yourchild gains confidence and is less anxious about a new environment or being away from home.Friendship Factor: Send your child with a friend or relative of the same age and gender so they can share the camp experiences together. We suggest onlytwo or three friends attend together so new friendships can be forged.Security: If your child is going to attend overnight camp and is nervous about being away from home, find an object (stuffed animal, blanket, pillow pet, etc.) they can sleep with at home before going to camp, allow them to take it to camp, and then sleep with afterward. For older children, bringing personalitems like a blanket or framed photos to set up by their bunk are great.Sleep: Allow your child to get plenty of sleep the week before camp because camp is a high-energy environment. If your child arrives at camp already tiredor stressed out, then it is much harder on them physically and emotionally, and they will not be able to function at their best.

Barbara Eubanks…Motherhood, Mistakes, and MerrimentMy mother never thought she was funny. She would say,” If it weren’t for Hugh’s (mydad) joking and carrying on foolishness, our home wouldn’t be filled with laughterlike it is.” She wasright, to someextent, but shewas funny with-

out meaning to be. She left our family withmany humorous memories. She made up wordsif she one didn’t come to mind that fit the situa-tion. One day she told me she had found a saleon blouses. “I just ‘cabbaged’ on that deal andbought two. “ Another time I was going shop-ping and asked her if she needed anything. Sheanswered, “If you find one, buy me an ‘exclusive’sweaters.” I knew she meant one embellishedwith jewels. Although she didn’t think of herselfas funny or pretty, as a mother, she set an exam-ple of grace, elegance, and self-sacrifice.

My experience as a mother began early. Steve Eubanks and I married whenI was fifteen. Our first son, Steve, Jr., was born ten months later. Beinggreat examples of Planned Parenthood (not), we had two more sons, Scottand Shannon, by the time I was twenty. I never wanted anyone to criticizeme because they thought I was too young to be a good mother, so I set theunattainable goal for myself of being a perfect mother. I thought if onecried, it meant I should respond immediately. Wrong. Even though mymistakes were/are many, my boys have grown into great young family menwho love to tease their mother.

My parents’ only caveat for my marrying so young was that I finish highschool. That I did, although I never really liked going to school. Since westarted our family so early, I finished my last three semesters through corre-

spondence courses. “Whew, I’ve got that schoolthing behind me now,” I thought. Wrong again.

When my husband told me he felt God calling himto the ministry, we moved to Birmingham for him toattend Samford University. Soon, he started encour-aging me to take some classes. Long story short, aftermany tears of indecision, knowing I should go, butfeeling torn because I didn’t want to and because Ididn’t want to slight my duties as a mother, my

daddy offered to pay my tuition, God resolved childcare issues for me, and Ibegan taking a full load. I would reserve afternoon until the children’s bed-time to take care of their need. I did my studying after they went to sleep. Once started, there was no stopping. After earning my B.A., I continuedmy education, receiving a M.A. and an Ed.S. from the University ofAlabama. I taught high school English for thirty-five years. Looking back,I realize God has a sense of humor; for a girl who didn’t want to go toschool, I spent many years there.

God is so good. Steve and I now have the threesons, their wonderful wives and eight charminggrandchildren. As a family, we still have greattimes together playing, cooking, laughing, andsometimes, even crying. We share both the goodand bad times.

After retiring from teaching, God opened upanother double career for me. I have written fourbooks and speak for many events each year as aChristian humorist. When speaking and writing,I share many funny church mishaps – many, myown faux pas.

My first three books are filled with these funny church stories which segueinto short devotions. The fourth and most recent is a Christian novel, which has gained great reviews. A Web Too Tight captures the readers'attention with the gripping prologue. Although a realistic scenario of sin'sstranglehold on God's servant grips the reader, the Hosea-type love dis-played by his wife Molly mirrors Christ's forgiveness and compassion.

Alice Duckett…Reflections on Motherhood Motherhood is a daunting and awe-inspiringword. The mothers in my family left me alegacy of love, the bonds of a strong family, and gave me many experiences I would neverhave received from anyone else. First, therewere my two grandmothers –one in GA andone in TN. Both always welcomed me andwere good listeners who heard me out onmany topics. Both were excellent cooks andhanded down a love of cooking to me.

Next, is my mother who supported me in all the interests I had-- fromdancing, piano and art, to band, twirling, swimming, and Girl Scouts. Shemade sure I got to all the practices and was a well-rounded young ladygrowing up. Later she supported my interest in writing and wanting to getpublished.

Now years later I have two children’s books onthe market and a new CD of recorded storiesabout family and childhood experiences. I’vepublished more than 475 articles and features innewspapers and magazines, and I speak to audi-ences, both adults and children, about discover-ing family history and many other topics. It hasbeen my privilege to be a columnist for this pub-lication since its beginning seven years ago. Lookfor me under “Kids Korner.” I’ve been fortunateto meet many interesting people and some “realcharacters” as I travel around the southeast pre-

senting programs. This has become a personal ministry to me. Mama would beproud!

As a mother myself, I am grateful that the Lord blessed me with a son, David, who’sgrown up, married, and matured into a wonderful daddy to his four children. As anonly child, he always wanted a big family, so now I have the distinct pleasure ofbeing grandmother to the four: Ashley-19, Morgan-17, Brooklynne-10 and Brody-7years old. Being a mother is a huge responsibility and should be taken seriously, butalso should include lots of fun, love and shared family time.

I was lucky to have a great mother-in-law who treated me as her own daughter fromthe very beginning. Not many daughters-in-law can say they never had an argumentwith their mother-in-law during a relationship of many years, but I can.

The women in my life were not only great cooks and hostesses, but strong Christianwomen who imparted lasting values to me. I’m truly grateful for their influence.

Today I’m enjoying retirement after a 31-year career in teaching. I’ve spent the past 7years “on the road” presenting my books, speaking and sharing programs to strength-en families, and writing, writing, writing. I belong to a writer’s group called the “LitChicks of Sand Mountain” and am pleased to call them “the other special women” inmy life. We read and critique our work and offer support not just as writers but as aclose-knit group of friends.

My dream to be a published writer has come true and much of the perseveranceand determination for success, I attribute to all the strong women in my life--mothers, grandmothers and friends. In the near future I plan to complete severalmore children’s books that I have started. I want to leave a legacy to children, especially to my four grandkids.

Good ThingsWhen my boys were young, birthday parties were so much fun. Whether wehad a picnic at Noccalula Falls, a skating party, or just a family celebration athome, it was worth all the preparation to just see the excitement on their faces. One of our most memorable ones, however, was held at the Anniston Museumof Natural History.

Both of my boys loved animals of all kinds. They were always coming into thehouse with something---a frog or lizard or turtle---I just never knew what toexpect! We were already members of the museum at that time and visited fre-quently to see the magnificent (albeit stuffed) animals they have on display, butwhen I found out that a live animal show was included in the birthday partypackage, that clinched it! It was priceless to watch all the children at the party asmuseum staff brought out a bat, a boa that they hung around my neck (theonly time that will ever happen), a tortoise, a possum, and a cute little owl. Theparty was a huge hit, and I (for at least a short time) was the best mom in theworld!

Our heavenly Father wants to give us good things, too. Matthew recordsChrist’s words, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeksfinds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there amongyou who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts

to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give goodthings to those who ask Him!” (Matt. 7:7-12).

William Barclay’s commentary on Matthew (2001) describes the limestone stonesfound on the beach at that time as looking exactly like miniature loaves of bread.A parent would never trick his child asking for bread by giving him one of thosestones! Barclay further explains that the “serpent” mentioned in the passage mostlikely referred to an eel, which although found in the sea was, by Jewish food laws, forbidden—eels were considered unclean. Jesus was illustrating that a good, lov-ing father would not respond to his child’s requests by tricking him or giving himsomething that would harm him in some way.

Finally, Barclay writes that Jesus’s directive to “ask,” “seek,” and “knock” reallymeant to “keep on asking,” “keep on seeking,” and “keep on knocking.” Godwants us to be persistent with our requests, our needs, our searching His will. Hewants to give us good things. Yes, sometimes we do not get what we want, but justlike children, we cannot see the big picture, as God can. Keep asking, seeking, knocking, but with submission to God’s will, and trust Him!

Barclay, W. (2001). The Gospel of Matthew (Vol. 1). Louisville, KY: Westminster John KnoxPress.

Dr. Nina King Member of First Presbyterian Church in Gadsden,a wife, mother of two boys, and a college professor.

You’ll Split Hell Wide OpenJesus really did die on the cross for our sins; it is notjust a story told in plays and movies. It is not just amyth or fairy tale that naysayers would have usbelieve. When depicted in a pageant at our church this pastyear, two children were distraught when they wit-nessed their family friend, who played Jesus, beingbeaten and hung on the cross. The man had to callthe young boys twice to convince them he really was-n’t hurt.

Nonetheless, this drove home the point to the olderone just how much Jesus loved us to suffer like that.He questioned his parents often about the crucifix-ion. His dad, our minister of music, told about hisvery serious discussion with his son: “Was Jesus reallybeaten like that and nailed to the cross for us?”

“Yes, son, he suffered that and much more.” Thechild, soon after that, wanted to pray and give hisheart to Jesus. He was baptized and seemed to have astrong understanding about salvation. Just as most ofus experienced, when Jesus came into his heart, hehad a strong desire to share this joy with others.According to his mom, the three-year-old has been

the most challenging of their three children becausehe is so strong-willed. He became the logical choicefor the new convert to evangelize. “You need to getsaved and be baptized, too,” the older told theyounger.

“I don’t want to,” was the only way the younger knewto answer. Having heard many evangelistic sermons, the older then borrowed a phrase from one of them.“If you don’t, Brother, you will die and spilt Hell wideopen.”

We may smile at the young convert’s fervor andunderstand that the three-year-old is safe in the armsof Jesus until He is old enough to understand, but histheology about the unsaved is so true. Oh, that allChristians would be so compelled to share the joy ofJesus with the lost and to fear for their damnation ifthey don’t accept Him!

Several years ago, I wrote an editorial for a local paperabout the movie The Passion of Christ. I began it,“Unworthy, unworthy – that was my reaction to theprice Christ paid for my sins as depicted in ThePassion of Christ.” Some staff writer only read thefirst part and entitled the article, Passion of Christ –

Unworthy of the Hype.” Although that was certainlynot the message I conveyed, the headline drew muchattention to the article, especially when people, whoknow me, saw my name connected to it. God usedthe mistake to gain many readers.

At Easter every year, I am reminded of just howunworthy I am of the price Christ paid for me on thecross. He did this for everyone who will, in faith, believe on him. How outraged we would feel if peo-ple we love refused a gift from us for which we hadsacrificed; how much more is Jesus insulted whenpeople refuse His gift of eternal life.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one andonly Son, that whoever believes in him shall not per-ish but have eternal life. John 3:16. NIV.

Hearing Combats Dementia

How can you live longer and better? Recent studies have shown thatpeople with active social lives are less likely to experience a decline inthe ability to reason and remember. A report from Johns HopkinsUniversity determined that elderly patients with hearing loss are at amuch higher risk to develop dementia, as compared to those individ-uals with little to no hearing loss. Being socially active is the key toliving longer and better, and the key to keeping socially active isgood communication skills.

Helen Keller said “blindness separates us from things, but deafnessseparates us from people.” A mild to moderate degree of hearing lossis sufficient to separate us from our friends, family, and community. The inability to communicate effectively can lead to inattentiveness, distraction, and boredom. The most serious consequences are with-drawal and nonparticipation. Many individuals with hearing losswill discontinue attending church services and holiday gatheringsbecause of the frustration they experience over their inability to com-municate.

Coping with hearing loss is different from other disabilities in that itis an invisible handicap. Normal hearing individuals often assumethat saying something louder or turning up the volume will enable aperson with a hearing loss to hear effectively. Hearing aids areintended to amplify the specific frequencies that are impaired, whichimproves the quality of the sound, not just the volume.

If you suspect that you or a loved one suffers from a hearing loss, please see your physician or audiologist to have your hearing evaluat-ed. If hearing loss is found, some conditions may be treated medical-ly or surgically. If hearing aids are advised, your audiologist can fityou with appropriate and affordable products.

Remember, communication and interaction with your friends, family, and community are the keys to a long and prosperous life.

Gadsden State Receives Endowment for Technical Scholarship Gadsden State Community College recently received a $30,000 endow-ment to establish the James W. (Jim) Nolen Scholarship Fund. Becky andRandy Word, sister and brother-in-law of the late Nolen, are responsiblefor the generous gift. Jim’s family largely credits Gadsden State with giv-ing Jim an opportunity to do what he loved most—working with hishands and helping people. Becky recalled, “When Jim died unexpectedly,we thought it would be a great idea toendow Gadsden State with a scholarshipin his honor and for his legacy becausethat’s where Jim got his start.”

Jim Nolen attended GSCC in the 1980sand was employed by Nolen GlassCompany for many years. “When myfather bought Nolen Glass, Jim would goto school and work at the company after,”Becky explained. “He loved working with hishands and it seemed like he worked onevery building in north Alabama.”

The Words wanted the endowment to bene-fit a student enrolled in a technical programsince they remembered how beneficial gain-ing a technical education was to Jim. Theyhope this scholarship will continue to helpmany students for years to come, but knowthat it will be especially helpful right nowbecause of the distressed economy. “Weknow that times are tough and we hope thiswill be able to help a lot of other peoplereach their goals the way my brother did,”Becky admitted.

Mortgage AnswersWhat is a Reverse Mortgage?Through a U.S. Government Insured Program, originally created by AARP, a senior can obtain a loan for approximately55%-75% of the appraised value of their home. The senior never has torepay the loan in their lifetime, as long as they live in the home. Then, whenthe last surviving spouse dies, the money received (plus interest and closingcosts) is repaid by the estate, usually from the sale of the house.

Typically, seniors who do a Reverse Mortgage get $50,000 - $462,000 cash todayand they always retain 100% ownership (and the future appreciation) in thehome. Also note that there are no income requirements and no good creditrequirements. A senior simply must be 62 or older and have equity in their home.

Already Have a Mortgage? If you do, that's OK. You can still do a Reverse Mortgage. but with the proceeds, you must pay-off the balance of your existing mortgage. By doing so, you theneliminate your monthly mortgage payment - thereby your monthly incomegoes up by that amount.

Amount You Can Receive? We loan you between 55%-75% of the appraised value of your home. Theolder you are, the more you get. Listed below is an approximation of the % ofthe value you would receive in cash (in the form of a loan) based on your age.At age 62 . . . the Loan to Value is approximately 55% and approximately 75%at age 90 (and up).

If you already have a mortgage on your home: Subtract the amount of yourexisting mortgage to determine the net cash you would receive. Also remember that going forward, you won't have a mortgage payment eachmonth because your existing mortgage is paid off in the process of getting aReverse Mortgage.

Use of ProceedsThe proceeds from a Reverse Mortgage can be used for anything: daily livingexpenses, home repairs and home improvements, medical bills and prescrip-tion, paying off existing debts, education, travel, long-term health care, etc. Many people use Reverse Mortgages as a way to give their kids a portion oftheir inheritance now, so they can see those happy faces while they are still alive. Many seniors feel comfortable doing this since there are no monthly mortgagepayments associated with a Reverse Mortgage. The proceeds from a Reverse Mortgage are available as a lump sum, fixedmonthly payments or a line of credit. . . or a combination of these.Call for Your FREE and CONFIDENTIAL Reverse Mortgage Written Estimate.

Your Apple A DayDo you want to lose weight? Have you experienced that no matter what diet you try, those stubbornpounds just keep hanging on? Regardless of why you gained weight, onceyou’re wearing those extra pounds, your metabolism shifts gears, triggeringmultiple hormonal changes that perpetuate weight gain by making yourbody resistant to losing weight.

The only way to lose is to rebalance your hormonal systems and get yourthyroid gland to be in charge of your metabolism again. Maybe you weretold at your check-up at the doctor’s office that your thyroid was “normal”,but ask yourself these questions: Are you always tired? Do you have dryskin and hair? Is your hair thinning? Are your hands and feet always cold?Do you lack motivation, are you moody, anxious, irritable or depressed? Athyroid imbalance could be the cause of these symptoms, as well as weightgain. Even with blood tests that indicate “normal” activity, you could stillhave a sub-clinical thyroid imbalance. Unfortunately, losing weight with aborderline low thyroid condition is extremely difficult.

The proper diet and thyroid support can help you get your zest back. Justby reducing sugar and trans fat, dairy, and eating more fibrous vegetables, you can detox the thyroid. Support your thyroid with foods that containiodine and avoid the foods you are allergic to, which make your bodyinflamed. It is the sugar and allergic foods that keep us bloated and our

metabolism sluggish. Don’t just buy into misery! Get the book, “TheThyroid Solution” and “The Thyroid Solution Diet” by Dr. Ridha Arem,M.D. Read them, get your doctor to read them, and let’s regain some zestfor the life you were meant to live! Have a great spring, folks! If we canhelp, come see us at Apple-A-Day in Gadsden!
