• Founded in 1970, Second Wave Feminism• At The City University of New York Graduate Center• Caters to Feminist Literature and Non Fiction• Not For Profit• Reprints of feminist literature and Women’s

Studies Literature

Gathering of the Tribes

• Mostly does art books, supports local artists, merging of art and literature

• Located on the East Side• A not for profit with many programs for

underprivileged youth

Four Way Books• Mostly does poetry• Award winning writers like Monica Youn and

Daniel Tobin• Sometimes they publish short fiction• Interesting in publishing dynamic literature

that can work in many genres

Kaya Press• Publishes literature by Asian writers• Publishes mostly poetry and short fiction• Sometimes publishes novels and memoir• Has a prominent presence on the West Coast,

LA, Seattle, as well

Soho Press

• Founded in 1986• Does literary fiction, mostly by NYC writers,

and International Crime fiction• Their imprints include Soho Teen, Soho Crime

and Soho Constable• Their authors have won the LA Times Book

Prize and The IndieFest Prize and the American Book Award

Persea Press

• Founded in 1975 by Michael and Karen Braziller who still own the company

• Publishes literature of high literary quality including poetry, fiction, non fiction and memoir

• Publishes select YA titles and a few anthologies

Ig Press• Publishes literary fiction and non fiction with a

progressive bent• Past publications have been awarded the

Barnes and Noble Best New Writers Award• Just started a YA Imprint called Lizzie Skurnick

Soft Skull Press

• Does largely oddball literary fiction• Has a subsidiary in Berkley, California • Publishes literary fictions, non fiction and

graphic novels• Their subsidary Counterpoint has published

City Lights Publishing• A part of City Lights Bookstore in San

Francisco, Ca• Known for its connection to the Beat

generation such as Ginsberg and Kerouac• Publishes numerous authors from multi-

cultural fiction to liberal non fiction

Dark Coast Press

• A Small press out of Seattle• Publishes largely abstract and experimental

writing• Publishes reprints of experimental books that

have been ignored by the main stream.

Salt Publishing• A UK Small Press out of London• Began in Cambridge, UK in 1999• Allison Moore’s novel The Lighthouse was

shortlisted for the Booker Prize• Tries to maintain its integrity by employing

only expert editors in their fields• They publish fiction, short fiction, poetry,

novels, non fiction, memoir and anthologies.
