Peer Support Camp The Year 6 Peer Support Camp will take place on
Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th March. The camp
involves activities to assist leadership development
and team building and will be held at The Great
Aussie Holiday Park. Detailed information will be
sent home with students this week.
Tennis Coaching Tennis coaching will commence on
Friday for all students K-6. The
sessions are conducted at the town
courts by trained coaches. I would
like to thank Mary Liston for successfully sourcing
a Sporting Schools Grant to cover the cost of the
tennis coaching. All students must return their
permission notes to participate. Please note there
will be a change in Week 4 and tennis will take
place on Monday 15th February.

Weekly Overview of School Activities
Congratulations to the children who participated in the swimming carnival last Friday.
This year Ms Byles will be working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Eulenstein will
be working Thursday and Friday on the 1/2 class.
This week for home learning it is expected that all children will read every night and record
in their home reading log and complete their news plan to share on their news day.
Next week additional spelling and maths home learning activities will begin.
Please remember that if your child is away it needs to be explained in writing.

Wednesday 10th Feb: Scripture begins. No assembly.
Thursday 11th Feb: Art
Friday 12th Feb: Swimming for sport (8 years & over). Tennis lessons begin for all
students. All permission notes must be returned for children to participate.
Monday 15th February: Canteen. Tennis lessons (Note change of date). All students to
wear sports uniform.
Tuesday 16th February: Year 5/6 Art. Band for all students in years 4 to 6.
Please remember to send $5 in with your child every time they require a band reed.
Band Fees are $30 per term for all students and must be paid to allow students to
take home their instrument.
I am so proud of all the students for a fantastic first week at school. This week we have
started learning our single sounds. This week we will explore a as in apple, m as in mouse
and s as in snake. Sight words were sent home on Monday, our sight words for this week
are like and school. I encourage all students to play memory or snap with these at home.
We are also learning the ‘Magic 100 words’ we will use these to help us learn to read and
write. Information about weekly news will be given this week. News will begin next week.
Don’t forget book packs are available to purchase at the front office, we will begin to use
these textbooks this week. In numeracy, we are investigating numbers up to 20 as well as
length.

We are both looking forward to teaching the students and are grateful that they are all well
equipped with the necessary equipment.
Homework will be sent home on Monday and must be returned on Friday.

In literacy we are focussed on a very persuasive introduction. If you can discuss this at home
that would be terrific.
Maths groups have commenced on Monday.
All year 5 will combine twice a week for numeracy with me. The rest of numeracy will take
place in class.

Thank you Year 5/6 for welcoming me into the room this week. We’ve had a wonderful start.
The swimming carnival was a great success. Congratulations to our Sports Captains who lead
their teams responsibly.
We will begin homework on Thursday. Please see me if you have any queries regarding any
homework tasks.
Year 5/6 will have art each Tuesday after recess.
Claim the date: Peer Support Camp for year 6 will take place on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday
16th March. There will be a cost involved. More information to follow.

P & C WELCOME BBQ
The P&C will be holding their annual Welcome
Barbeque on Tuesday 16th February 2016
from 6pm to 8pm at the Henty War Memorial
Swimming Pool. This casual and relaxed
evening is hosted by the P&C and is an
opportunity for all families to have a bite to
eat, meet new parents, catch up with friends,
as well as find out what happens at the School. Everyone is welcome. Please
bring plates, cutlery, chairs and a salad to share. Sausages and burgers will
be provided. We look forward to seeing you there.
SCHOOL CHOIR
School Choir will again be held this year during school hours, under the instruction of
Willow Alieto. All students are invited to participate. If you would like your child to
be involved please fill out the slip below and return it to the office.

If you are willing to transport students to
school events, it is compulsory for the
school to have specific documentation
from you.
The school is again taking part in the ICAS
assessments for 2016. This testing can
help benchmark, track and monitor learning
progress. It can also help identify
potentially gifted students and allow us to
work together to identify areas where
your child can work to reach their full
potential. The assessments are for
students from years 2 to 6.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL: What a great day at our Swimming carnival. A huge thank you
to all parents and helpers on the day. Students will be notified who will proceed to the
Southern Riverina Carnival on the 19th February today.
Congratulations to Halle Corrigan who set a new record in the 11 year girls 50m butterfly
with a time of 50:47. The previous record was held by Ainslie Campbell with a time of
50:61 and set in 1999.
SR CRICKET TRIALS: Congratulations to Nick Newton who has been selected to attend
the Riverina Boys Pre-selection Trials at Lavington on Wednesday 10th February. We
wish you all the best Nick.
TENNIS: Tennis will commence this Friday with Karen Staines. There will be racquets
available for any students who do not own one. Please remember to bring your hat,
sunscreen and drink bottle. Sports uniform as per each Friday. Please note tennis next
week will take place on Monday 15th Feb and not Friday. Sports uniform is to be
worn.

SPEECH LESSONS I plan to teach Speech and Oral Communication at HPS again in 2016, and will be happy to work
with students I taught last year. I am also pleased to take on board any students who have been
mentioned to me late last year as wanting to commence work with me. I would like it if these
children could be enrolled by filling out the Application Form below. Please note there is a slight
increase in fees to $18 /lesson.
Depending on numbers, I may be able to fit in a few extra students. If you would like your child
to begin speech lessons you may like to call me for a chat on 0427 889 599, or else just fill out
the form. Preference will be given to those who will present for ASCA Exams and/ or
Eisteddfod.
