thOn 17 May 2017, the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration published guidelines on the criteria and conditions for issuing an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status to an applicant. These guidelines also contain details on the various benefits of an AEO, which include facilitation from mutual recognition agreements between EU and third countries, simplified warehousing procedure and fewer physical and document-based controls among others.
thOn 19 May 2017, the EU published supply chain due diligence obligations for Union importers of conflict minerals i.e. Tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold. This is to ensure responsible sourcing of these minerals from conflict areas and avoid illegal
thexploitation to finance violence and crime. The regulation shall apply from 9 July 2017.
thOn 16 May 2017, the European Court of Justice paved the way for a veto right of national parliaments against Free Trade Agreements (FTA) of the EU. Member states wanting to involve their parliaments can add to the bureaucratic burden to negotiate and pass FTA's, CETA being a recent example.
thOn 15 May 2017, World trade organisation (WTO) modified trade policy review mechanism on behalf of EU. The review system defined in terms of their share of world trade in a recent representative period will be the determining factor in deciding on the frequency of reviews. The old review system will be replaced, respectively, by cycles of three, five or seven
thyears. The regulation entered into force on 15 May 2017.
Peru's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR) invited Peruvian companies to maximize the opportunities offered th stby the Peru - Costa Rica FTA, which was signed on May 26 , 2011, and entered into force on June 1 , 2013. They pointed out
that since January of this year, approximately 75% of the national shipments enter duty free or with zero tariff to the Central American market. This FTA is part of Peru's trade strategy to improve conditions for access to international markets. It also establishes clear rules that promote the exchange of goods, services and investment between the two countries, which will create new jobs and boost the economy of Peru. Trade between Peru and Costa Rica amounted to 85.1 million USD and the surplus for Peru reached 34.7 million USD in 2016. Lastly, Peru's Deputy Minister Vásquez had a meeting with the Food Industry Association, the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber of Industries, the House of Representatives of Foreign Companies and the Chamber of Exporters, with the aim of deepening the bilateral relationship of both countries.
Luis Felipe Céspedes, Chile's Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, met with Anita Nayar, India's Ambassador to Chile. The Ambassador expressed her intention to strengthen ties with Chile in non-traditional sectors, like academics, and to extend aspects of India's culture such as gastronomy, yoga and Ayurveda. Céspedes emphasized on the effective date of the partial scope agreement signed on September 2016. This agreement increased the number of products from 474 in 2007 to about 2,800 today, which will benefit Chilean food exports in particular allowing them accessing to that market.
