The program uses technology and references social media as a way of engaging students while providing health information about sexually transmitted diseases in a topical way. Students hear the facts and myths about STDs and see how the choices they make have a lasting impact on the lives of other people. The program supports the Health Education Content Standards for California Public Schools in the areas of mental, emotional and social health; injury prevention and safety; and growth, development and sexual health. Safe Routes to School Education comes to CHS! Did you know? Biking and walking to school are a great way to improve student health and academic performance! Approximately 60% of CHS students regularly bike or walk to school! However, state rankings show that Coronado ranks low in bike and pedestrian safety. To help address this issue, the City of Coronado and the Coronado Unified School District have partnered to help bring better bicycle and pedestrian safety education to Coronado students and their parents. The partnership includes a $36,000 Safe Routes to School Education Grant that will benefit Coronado Schools, including CHS! As part of the effort to improve safety, the Coronado Police Department will also be increasing bike enforcement efforts in 2016. Want to know more? • Come learn what you need to know at the Feb 8th PTO Meeting (6pm at the CHS

Library)
