Networking
• Some say networking is just talking to strangers. But the dictionary defines a stranger as "one who is neither a friend nor an acquaintance." !
• The word stranger sounds scarier than the benign definition. Why do we give such power to strangers, these people we don't even know yet?
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
Networking
• “A supportive system of sharing information and services among individuals and groups having a common interest” !
• “Up the proverbial creek? If you got a network, you always have a paddle.” Harvey Mackay!

Preparation Mindset
Implementation Follow-up
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
The Mindset
• Right attitude!• Confidence!• Treat every gathering as an
opportunity!• SMILE
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
The Preparation
• A shy person will find it difficult to approach individuals at a networking function. You don’t have to be an extrovert, gregarious, or outgoing to make meaningful connections.
• The tip is “preparation”. The more prepared you are, the more comfortable, and effective you will be in conversing with individuals.
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
The Preparation
• It can be as simple as “I will meet and talk to four new people at this event”.
• Another goal might be to establish a follow-up meeting with at least two of the people that you met.
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
Implementation
• Don’t be shy • Engage and be curious • Listen with your ears and eyes • Break away from those you
know • Know how to say goodbye
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
Follow Up
• Nice to meet you card • Invite to LinkedIn • Send interesting articles • Meet for coffee, lunch, drinks,
etc...

Change
• Inevitable !• Additional skills!• Opportunity!• Plan and Predict!• Take risks and be aggressive!• Do you come to work excited?

Steve Jobs - Stanford Commencement
• “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”!
• “Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.”
Peter A. Margaritis, LLC Copyright 2014
“Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”!
Steve Jobs - Stanford Commencement
