What is SQUIRT? Sustained Quiet Uninterrupted Independent Reading Time

20-25 minutes a day of sustained silent reading

Class competition Each class has chosen

a color. As they finish reading a

book, they write on a colored sticky note their name, the book title and author, and if they would recommend it (yes or no).

How will my child be graded? A – 100-93 B – 92 - 85 C – 84 - 75 D – 74 - 67 F – 66 - 0

Classwork, tests/quizzes – 70%

Homework – 10% Quarter Exams –

Weekly grades: Bellringer and Writing Prompt – 10 pts.

DLT check – 5 pointsReading Log – 50 points

What is ZAP?

Zeroes Aren’t Permitted

A program designed to eliminate zeroes from the gradebook with multiple opportunities to complete the assignment.

1st – alternative due date

2nd – complete assignment during P.E. by coming to teacher

3rd – ZAP hall after school

What does my child do everyday? 1st – write DLT in their agendas 2nd – answer Bellringer in binder 3rd – read SQUIRT for 20-25 minutes

followed by a log (worth 50 pts. a week) 4th – answer a writing prompt in binder 5th – 3 minute break 6th - daily lesson

What are the classroom expectations?

Students should be prepared with materials.

Students should show respect to peers and faculty.

Students should be quiet and attentive during class.

Students should participate in class discussions.
