Wisdom behind the marriages

• The Prophet s.a.w NEVER did a single thing for his own desire – always for the benefit of others

• 1) To create bonds with other tribes• 2) To take care of the wives of his companions

who had passed away• 3) To strengthen ties with his companions• 4) So they could tell other people what he was

like as a father and a husband

The Prophet s.a.w’s wives Khadija r.a.Sawdah r.a.Aishah r.a.Maymoonah r..aHafsah r.a.Zaynab bint Khuzaymah r.a.Safiyyah r.a.Zaynab bint Jahsh r.a.Umm Habibah r.a.Umm Salamah r.a.Mariyah r.a.

Sawdah r.a.

• The first one to marry the Prophet s.a.w after Khadija r.a. passed away.

• She was a very generous woman who used to cheer up the Prophet s.a.w with her sense of humour

• She was kind, and would give up the things dear to her for the other wives of the Prophet s.a.w

Maymoonah r.a.

• The last wife to marry the Prophet s.a.w• Her name was ‘Barrah’ but Nabi s.a.w

changed her name to Maymoonah• “She was among the most pious of us and the

kindest to the kith and kin”• She would perform Hajj every year

Hafsah r.a.

• Daughter of Umar r.a. ‘Abu Hafs’• The story of her marriage• Aishah + Hafsah like bezzie mates• Angel Jibreel said to the Prophet s.a.w:”Take

Hafsah back, for she frequently fasts and prays in the night”

• She was entrusted with one of the very first copies of the mus-haf

Zaynab bint Khuzaymah• She embraced islam early, married Abdullah

ibn Jahsh and migrated with him to Abyssinia.• The Prophet s.a.w wished to console her, so

she married her.• She was ‘mother of the poor’• She was the only wife to have passed away

during the lifetime of the Prophet s.a.w - he always remembered her for her patience
