May 2018 Volume 24 Issue 3
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Aaah---spring! The sounds of…birds, lawnmowers, and our dogs urging us to get outside and play! ASCNE members have plenty of opportunities during the coming months to play with their Aussies! During the month of May, the club sponsored 4 events and in June club will sponsor our multi-event Colors of Summer show, an agility workshop, and two days of stock trials. Come out and support your club’s activities. The by-laws changes approved by the Board, will be posted on the website next week. Check the homepage for the location of the document. Please review them and send comments to me before June 25. The Board will review members’ comments and vote on any changes necessary. The Bylaws will then be sent to ASCA for approval, and pending ASCA approval, will be submitted to the ASCNE membership for a vote. The club is still looking for assistance in a few areas – please see the “Want Ad” in this newsletter for details and if you have interest in any of these positions, please let me know. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events and hope you celebrate all successes – great and small.
Anne

From Matt Mason: The ASCNE sponsored May Farm Trials at NH Sheep and Wool Festival went well on 5/12 and 5/13 in Deerfield, NH. The Judge, Marti Parrish from WA, was very pleased with the handlers and she loved the trial set up and wished she could have competed on it. A few ASCNE members competed each day and a large number of non-members including 3 from Quebec, Canada competed each day to provide some good competition and opportunities to learn. Participants had a good volume of practical tasks to complete on each course, and it helped to show the general public how useful a working dog can be on a daily basis. There was an increased volume of spectators there to watch runs this year which was great to see. Although the qualifying runs were not in abundance, the camraderie and support to one another was apparent and great to see, especially on Sunday when "the sheep won" Hopefully more ASCNE members and working dog owners will participate in 2019.
A sincere THANK YOU goes out to all of the competitors as well as the volunteers (ASCNE members as well as many non-members) who volunteered their time to make this event a success and a good representation of ASCNE and livestock working dogs.

From Anne Hubbard:
Gilli (Laconia BuffCap Carmel
Black Gilliflower) earned her
first Advanced (mixed stock)
leg at ASCNE’s recent farm
trial. She placed 4th with a
score of 104.5, working goats
and ducks. She also earned
2nd place with a score of 116
the next day in Open (sheep),
but did not qualify as we ran
out of time. She did an
outstanding job, however, and
I am thrilled with her control
and calm. Gilli had a good

NEWS FROM THE BOARD:
BY-LAWS Changes Explained
The Board has reviewed the By-laws and has approved a number of changes for the
membership to vote on. These changes fall into several areas as described below. When the
by-laws are posted on the website, each change will be highlighted and explained.
• Spelling/grammatical/typos – these changes correct misspellings, grammar mistakes, and typos. The changes do not change the meaning of the by-law.
• Consistency in using officers’ titles and referring to the Board and its members.
• Changes to bring the current by-law’s language closer to the language of ASCA’s wording for Affiliate Club’s by-laws.
• Other changes that do not fit in any of the above categories that came about as a result of Board discussions.
• Changes to add wording for “electronic” means for meetings, votes (as appropriate), etc.
• Change to eliminate the current reference to Junior’s membership dues as being one-half of regular membership dues. If regular members’ dues were raised in the future, juniors’ dues would also have to increase as described in the by-laws. By eliminating this reference to Juniors’ dues in the by-laws, the Board could reduce or even eliminate Junior’s dues without having to go through a by-laws change process. The Board’s intent is not to increase Juniors’ membership dues, but rather, to provide flexibility to set dues independently of regular membership dues.
HELP WANTED:
ASCNE is looking for people who might have the following skills and/or interest. If you are interested in one of these, please let Anne Hubbard know.
1. Marketing/Publicity – do you have skills in these areas? If so, ASCNE is looking for someone(s) to help think about how to publicize ASCNE events and to attract more participants to our shows. 2. Librarian – the club is looking for someone to take over the library. Lisa Andrade has worked hard to “purge” the library of outdated and unused materials. She now needs to pass this collection over to a new librarian.
New England Aussie 12
3. Tax Preparer – Dottie Duclos has been preparing and filing the club’s taxes for many years and would now like to pass this on to someone else. If you have tax prep experience – especially with non-profits, please let us know. If you have tax prep experience and would like to expand your skills to non-profits, let us know as well.
SHOW RESULTS REPORTING:
Reminder to all Show/Trial Chairs: Please remember to send show/trial results to Ariane Bailey (ariane.m.bailey@gmail.com ) so they can be included in the newsletter. Thank you. Anne
